PD170 Oil Consumption

Featured Replies

My vRS TDI (PD170) has had some starting issues recently with the cold weather setting in. Takes a few cranks to start. Had the same issues this morning and the oil warning light came on. Checked the dipstick and found that it was below the MIN mark after only 4000 miles since the last oil change!

Needless to say I'm concerned. What could be causing that? It's currently in a garage getting looked at.

Could be something as simple as a leak via the sump plug or oil filter housing cap.  It may only leak when the oil is pressurised, so it may not be easily apparent when the car is parked up.

Ah, the good old cold starting issues on the PD170. Reminds me what time of year it is as it's about now all the complaints start appearing!

Have you had the injectors replaced under warranty?

Could be the fact that most dealers only add a tiny bit more than minimum new oil after a service, this is standard across Skoda, Audi and VW, all cars I have serviced I dip at the dealership and ask them to top it up.

My 170 CR TDi has done 100,000 miles and uses no oil.

Are you saying when Skoda service your car they only fill the oil to just over the MIN mark?

I'd try another dealer, my dealer fills it up to the MAX mark!

That is exactly what I am saying, not only Skoda but Audi and VW in Warrington, VW used to change the service interval to fixed also, I always got them out to the car to set it back to longlife and top up the oil.  Maybe it is just a lease plan thing.

Injectors have been replaced under warranty by a previous owner. Had a mechanic look at it today and all he found was a bit of oil staining on the turbo casing, so going to keep an eye on the oil usage and if it gets worse, look at a turbo replacement. Might try the elephant mod to see if that'll help.

Hi,

Recently (well,1,5 years ago..) I bought a used 2007 Octavia II RS 2.0 TDI PD, and have a problem with oil consumption... Have done with it about 30k km , and the car is serviced every 13k km ( 8100 miles). In that period the car drinks, approx. 1,5L of oil. In my opinion that is a little too much. I use castrol edge 5w30 LL, and the car has now 150k km ( 93000 miles).

When I bought the car, already the injectors and DPF off modifications were made...If that makes any difference... :)
The car doesn't use water coolant, and this summer I took it to turbine specialist that said that the turbine is still fine... What else is still left? Piston rings? Valve seats?
In with way did you sort out your problem?

Has anyone else had the same problems?

Thx

Have tried using 5w40 (505.01 spec) oil instead to see if that helps? As you have removed your dpf so you don't really need to use 507 spec anymore.

No, i haven't tried to use 505.01. On the next service interval I was thinking of using aral 505.01 5w40 to see what happens...
But I wanted to hear from other 2.0 TDI PD 170 owners their experience with oil consumption...

Searching on various forums, I've seen various oil consumptions for the 2.0 tdi. Some use oil, some don't depending on owner's driving style and general usage of the car...
Mine oil usage seams quite high to me and I'm concerned that it cause a bigger problem....
