Seized rear caliper

Featured Replies

So after replacing the osr caliper due to a stripped bleed nipple thread discovered at oulton park :( I decided to check the nsr as I knew the handbrake wasn't working on that side. Found a seized caliper :(

So decided to take it off and strip it. Worse case I'd have to buy another refurb so nothing to loose.

Managed to free the piston which looks like it will get away with a little smoothing. Then freed up the self adjusting handbrake by removing the circlip. What a bitch if a job that was. Anyway shaft looks too far gone.

Clean it up a little and temp refit. Handbrake seems to spring back. So will give it all a clean up the best I can and refit. See how long it lasts before replacing the whole caliper. Seals look fine.

Been a busy lad!!   Good to see you are on with the repair but as we said at OP, not a good time for it to go.

If I were you, I would be looking for replacements rather than repairing.

These guys are well worth a look

Great site James thanks.

Love the fact a green one is twice the price :( £15 cheaper than euro that I paid for the other side.

Green is the new red lol

As for ECP, I always buy online and collect as you tend to get a better price than over the counter.

Been taking my time on this as I've been busy and don't need my car everyday.

All cleaned up

And rebuilt. Handbrake seems to be working perfect now. The circlip is a bitch of a job to refit. Makes taking it apart easy.

Finally refitted tonight. I now have 4 brakes and a handbrake :). The handbrake seems to release all the way. Time will tell but saves £100 for a new caliper.

Great work, nice result.

Mine seized again two weeks ago so decided to buy second hand and try to refurbish myself. Time will tell how I do :D

Great to see you rebuild it and not just replace. Love stuff like that. Cheers

I've got a pair of the circlip pliers if anyone wants to buy them off me? They're the proper long nosed ones. The end of one feckin snapped off when I was trying to rebuild mine, so I've filed them down to get it back to shape. Not perfect, but still do the job just fine.

Highly recommend a decent circlip plier set.

Out of interest have you got a link?
