Retrofit Front Sensors?

Featured Replies

On the Mk2 if you have the right control box its just a case of adding the front sensors & wiring and a bit of coding to get the front sensors all working.

Anyone know if its the same on the MK3? My parents only have the rear sensors and are already finding that the front sensors would have been quite handy to have. Depending on the cost a retro fit may be considered.

I would have thought that even if it is complicated and / or expensive to retrofit OEM front sensors it wouldn't be beyond the wit of man to retrofit after market ones, in the same way you can retrofit rear sensors. As long as they are a different pitch to the rear ones, and the speaker for them is in the front of the car ( same as OEM) all will be fine. you'd just lack the display in the infotainment system.

Long story, but we'd originally specced Park Assist (primarily because you couldn't actually have front sensors in isolation, which is what we really wanted). Anyway, due to a little bit of a blunder by the supplying dealer, the car was built without, so they've therefore retrofitted an Audi system (at least I was told it was an Audi system, I've not checked !).

As Timoctav has alluded to it's audible only through an independent speaker (which is a little disappointing as it would have been nice to see on the amundsen) but it does the job and there's a separate discreet rocker switcher added next to the cigarette lighter to turn it off.

The latter has been quite useful as it's the first car we've had with front sensors, but one thing that has been a bit odd is that they've been set off by spray on the motorway on a couple of occasions (presumably because there's no low speed override etc).

I'm sure you can add front factory sensors

I did the same to my mk2 FL which had rear sensors from the factory

You will require the front sensors and new control module and the wiring

You will need to buy the correct module as they are specific to the number of sensors that are fitted

Hey Eddie,

I had the feeling that was the case. I would be suprised if its not possible although I guess with the newness of the car the parts will not be cheap at the moment. I wonder if they fitted any of the cars with the box for front and back by default but only wired the front. I always think that surely there is an economy of scale with these things where its cheaper just to have one module and fit it to them all.

Bit like the way Intel had one CPU but would unclock it for the slower speeds at one time.
