Coming home time delay doesn't work

Featured Replies

Hey folks.

This is with reference to a pre-fl '57 plate MY08 Octavia elegance.

The coming/leaving home works fine and uses the light sensor etc.

I can change the leaving home time and it works so 10 seconds in VCDS means they turn off after 10 seconds.

However if I change the coming home time delay it doesn't work.

So it's currently set to 30 seconds. If I change it to 20 it is accepted and saves the change but the lights still stay on for 30 seconds. I go back in and sure enough it says 20 seconds but still they stay on for 30 seconds.

Am I missing something? Tried a few other tick boxing relating to the coming home logic and personalisation setting but this just stops the coming/leaving home working altogether.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

Doesn't the timer depend on opening and closing door or key off ignition

Hmmm... possibly...

Perhaps the timer starts from when the door is opened?

Phil

Timer started from the time the key is removed from the ignition, I believe.

Stopwatches at the ready :)

Mine lights up when the doors open, and timer starts then.

Not on removing keys.

Removing keys just unlocks the doors and lights up the interior lights.

Now then.... did I remove the key from the ignition when I tried it or just turn it off. Can't remember so will have to try tonight!

It may be slightly different on FLs to the pre-FL we have Phil. In addition, I don't use CH/LH any more so my memory maybe failing on that. I got paranoid about xenon ballast wear :)

I had this exact issue on the 54 plate BEFORE I had the maxidot retrofit. When it had the original non-maxidot dashpod, the CH/LH times stored in the ECU had to be set with VCDS. No matter what the VCDS setting was, the lights remained on for 30 seconds, no more, no less.

For some strange reason, as soon as the maxidot was retrofitted and the times could be altered on maxidot, the time the lights are now on correspond to what is stored in the ECU.

Mike

That is strange...

Might just give me an excuse for a maxidot retrofit then...

I had the same thoughts with mine when I 1st got the car, so I recoded it to use the foglights instead of the xenons (low beams).

Much better in my opinion.

I would indeed do exactly that, if it were possible on a pre-FL.

Well just a little update.

I now have maxidot fitted and the times still make no difference!

Phil

Weird. Want to PM me your coding and I'll compare it to mine?

  • Author

Ok. Will get the coding off the car later.

Here's my long coding:

I assume that's what you wanted?

The one option I did see that I'm not sure about was the choice between Personalisation or Light Sensor. It's currently on Personalisation ("0").

Phil

Yep that should do Phil. I'll check if I have a logfile to hand, if not I can check tonight.

There are some settings that can cancel each other out, certainly. So will cross-check for you

Thanks Steve.

Appreciate it.

I have adjusted the timing with VCDS without problem. I think they were on 80 seconds to start with and I knocked it down to 40 OK. I know my car is a year older than yours Phil but I'm not sure why that would make a difference.

Phil, when you did my pre-FL, we couldn't set the timer either. The lights never came on no matter what we did, but the rest of the functions for it worked, ie lights on and off with the ignition.

Here's my long coding:

I'm running E18A0F12101E140000110D000000000000087F065C. Just got to work out the differences now!

You've got the rain/light sensor on yours haven't you?

  • Author

My brain hurts. Lol.

Yes I have rain light sensor and auto lights too.

Thanks for the input guys.

Phil

I'll dig put my coding in a bit. I have the rain/light sensor, auto lights and cruise but not maxidot.

Well my coding is:

E18A0F21101E140000110D000000000000087F075C

The part no for the CE is: 3C0 937 049 E

And for an "easy" comparison:

ED8AF0F1110191E0018110D000000000080097F065C100008000000000000 Mike 08 Plate
498A0B10003214000011D000000000001 Mike 54 Plate

Looking at that, I would say they are all different...

  • Author

They look like they're maybe all different versions of CCM and so different options etc to choose from.

I will look at what options relating to CH/LH lights I have enabled/disabled and go from there.

Mine is a '57 plate but it's actually a MY08 and I understand that they made a few changes for MY08 cars including slightly updated CCMs and coding etc. I also know that my rain/light sensor looks physically different to a MY07 car and the behaviour of the CH/LH is different.

Phil, do have the cornering fogs option on yours?

Mike

Yes and they're enabled.
