Featured Replies

My octy is not far off hitting 100k, so I was wondering woould an engine flush be a good idea?

According to the service manual it has always had a service when it should and has had what its need.

Any thouvhts on having an engine flush?

Engine flush is not good for these cars, most engine flush can eat turbo seals.

The only safe flush is the dealership and they won't sell it but perform the job for you which ain't cheap.

Cleaning agents are normally found in good oils these days and regular maintenance and oil changes should be enough.

If you have evidence of regular service then don't bother

I would also change oil before recommended intervals on higher mileage cars.

I do mine every 6 months or 4000 miles

i used it in one of my old 20xes tappy as feck after, just keep changing oil and steer clear of the cleaners

I usually use half of the amount it states to use, if it says use the whole bottle i use half, usually pour it in, drive to get the oil and filter and drive home and drop it while its hot.

Never bothered, Id be more concerned about the pickup pipe and look into the condition of this for peace of mind.  & you can also clean the sump out.

forte is the best flush but id flush it then clean or change the oil pick up pipe then re fill with quality oil

Any flush stuff usually causes more harm than good

Few months ago I used for the first time engine flush from Liqui Moly with good results

I think I'll use it again at next oil service

Might I suggest you buy a gallon of cheap oil and use that as a flush, push out old oil from galleries and pipework. Dump and put in usual service oil.

Build up of crud will be a cause of infrequent oil changes. If good service is maintained then engine flush is a waste of money and potential engine killer.

Reason being that most engine flushes use chemicals to break down the deposits of crud and lacquered engine . Instead of breaking it down to microscopic levels that can pass through pipe up pipe and get trapped in filter they are left with larger pieces. These can get trapped in oil ways and pick up pipe and cause worse damage.

Good quality recommended oil already has cleaners and various additives in it to keep engine clean and running as it should. So there really is no need to use cleaner in that case

If you do not follow service procedures and or the car is coked up due to poor maintenance,  just flushing with cheap oil is not going to do any real cleaning TBH.

You would need to use a dealership flush or perhaps Liquid moly cleaner + .

But I would also take off sump and clean the pick up pipe to due to above points.

Let's speak technically...there are 2 major parts where deposits can build up in considerable (large) amount....valve cover and oil sump.

These 2 parts can be cleaned manualy if you want to be sure you won't dislocate large amount of crud while use engine flush

Very true buddy....

But if folks are worried about using engine flush, they  may not be thinking about removing these parts, certainly themselves, So i think important to advise the issues if you don't clean them out right.
