Skoda got burgled but no damage

Featured Replies

Hi all just wanted to make people aware of a new style of burglaries that have happened on my road. I have a fabia monte carlo and my neighbour across the road has 63 plate Audi A3 and we both had our cars broken into. There was no glass broken, no signs off forced entry, and ironically no damage inside my car itself. I actually thought I may have left the car doors open, but as my neighbour got burgled as well I realised that I had been burgled.

My neighbour called the police and they told her that they have notice a trend of VAG cars being burgled in a similar way, turns out their using some kind of RF fob to open the car.

Thankfully all they took from my car was a portable dab radio.

Just to make people aware this is happening, i even had the alarm on but looks like they were able to switch it off.

So beware, but I don't know if there is a resolution. Gonna be contacting skoda to find out. Will keep you posted.

good to hear that nothing was damaged, slightly concerned though that from the sounds of it they are able to get in so easily and disabling the alarm :-S

keep us updated if Skoda say anything or there are any extra precautions they advise VAG owners to take?

I suggest everyone gets an APR remap.

Alongside all the extra powaaaaa it gives you there is also a programable electronic throttle disconnect so even if someone has your keys, without your four digit code the accelerator does nothing.

Doesn't help people taking things from your passenger seats if they can RF hijack the doors and alarm but generally all that I ever leave on view in my car is a heavily food stained kiddie car seat, not appetising for the criminals.

LOL. To be honest, I really hope this website does background checks on its punters!

Absolutely, my first reaction was yikes, on reading that these exist and are potentially only a paypal transaction away from some thieving oiks grasp.

I am looking for a secondhand portable DAB radio cs.rogers

If what the OP is true then this is very very serious. Compromised key encyrption means it will be a free for all for burgulars.

This was on TV ( I believe Watchdog?) about the exact same thing but with BMWs. Looks like you're only safe by going back to the old style keys. And let's face it. what was ever wrong with them?

I don't know nuffin about no DAB guv'nor!!  :bandit:

Is this the same as the fairly old tech of a "grabber"?  That scares me more, as the thief would have to be close to you, in order to grab your code from your plipper as you operate it.

If this bit of kit just overcomes the codes, then that's easier for the thief, but he still has to scope the area to look for targets.

And if it's that easy, you could hide everything from view, they'd still have time to get in your car at 3am and have a rummage to their hearts content...

WEASELS!!

Blimming heck. That's not good!!! Thankfully I never leave anything in my car except maybe dog related crap like poo bags, treats, water, wellies etc.

Hopefully the 'Poo Bags' are empty!! ;)

I remember years ago on old Golfs you could open the central locking with half a tennis ball, Stick it over the lock and whack it!! popped the 'Vacuum' central locking system nicely!, didn't disable any alarms though!! :D

Hahaha   yes the ones which get left in the car are empty ones. Def cant see a burglar wanting full ones!!!

my god the things that move on since the good old days, back then we just had to use a brick

Best one was a coat hanger

That set only allows you to decode a lock barrel and make a key that fits it.  Hardly a problem as you need a lock from the car in the first place.  Even if you had a key, first of all on a modern car you've got to find the lock in which to use it and it won't start the engine due to immobiliser.

If they had a key and something with which to defeat the immobiliser, I doubt that your car would be parked where you left it.
