Not ideal :( we all know it'll come to us one way or another, its just a case of when!

Stick with it mate - who knows if you won't have the same troubles with something else....   At least if you get it done then you know it's had all the major components that are prone to failure :-)

Oh, and go hybrid ;-) !!

Dude I'd love to but seriously don't have the cash spare at the minute :-(

Locate a second hand turbo for now then I'd say. I wouldn't act too quickly and trade it in. As you're probably just a bit peeved with what's happened at the minute! Understandably....  I remember when mine blew :-/

Just seem someone on here selling hybrids for £350 better raise some cash

Sorry to hear this mate. This is what I'm scared of the most! My turbo going.

Mine has a little whistle when you rev it, which worries me.

You are in MK so Unit18 will look after you.

Tech1e how do I know if my car is asz or blt I believe it's the asz just weighing up cost to cars value but as I spent just over a £1000 a couple of months ago it's got to be worth doing

It should be on the V5 certificate mate.

I think the BLT engine came in on the 06 cars onwards.

Thanks I'm going to have a look at logbook tonight already been on the phone to Ali at unit 18 he thinks for about £450 I can get a hybrid turbo from turbo technics so need to raise some cash I think

You've done the fly and clutch already then when you do the turbo its practicaly a zero risk car! You won't get your money back by selling and may risk it all over again buying another car.

I'm looking at taking a punt against a brand new Astra VXR I need a bigger car anyway

Not trying to put you off or owt, but a mate of mine had a brand new one a while ago. He said the fuel economy is absolutely shocking on it, even for what it was....  So bare that in mind! Lovely cars though - the interior is such a nice place to be.

You can look about and get something cheap.

I've got a good, seemingly servicable ASZ turbo from a breaker on the fleabay, only cost me £160 for a decent ASZ 130 Garrett ( quite pleased with that, wonder why no one else was after it at that price TBH given new they are at least 4x that )

Mine is also at 107K ish and a bit whistly which is why I got it as insurance policy otherwise I'd offer it to you

but just to reassure you don't have to pay through the nose to get a spare, you don't have to go expensive unless you want to.

Don't overlook a good cond KKK they will be dirt cheap because their name is (a bit unfairly) mud, well they can't be that bad if they can go to at least 100K over 7 years that is my opinion! Plus performance wise they can't be bad as I've dusted a fair few Audis etc to prove.

I was a bit worried but to be honest mine is still going strong, no suggestion of imminent failure so its horses for courses.

Yeah I think to be honest it's a 9 year old car and is starting to show signs of ageing I understand that the VXR is going to be pants on fuel economy and I've priced one up and looks like I can't afford new but I've found a 2010 plate with 15k for £10k so going to have a look into that option instead I know that I can get another turbo for a decent price but it's always hit and miss and because of the age and mileage I can't get a warranty to cover it where as at least with a new motor I can get cover against cost of repair

The thing I'd always say with anything like this is, you've spent a some coin on the clutch and flywheel, with a turbo you've replaced the main bits that go. Once that's done you know where you are.

Whats the chance that something big on a new car that you don't know the history of is going to go bang?

Too true but I've wanted a new motor for a while and I suppose it's a risk I'll have to take

Fair enough fella you pay your money you take your choice. If you were looking anyway then this is probably a good time to go do it.
