Octatvia mk1 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Its been a while since I've had time to visit on here, I hope you are all doing well.

I have a problem regarding my Octy 1.9Tdi  ( 2002  110bhp non-pd)

The wife  came home from work last night  and said it had been struggling a bit for power and idle speed was dropping , and then picking up again. It seemed worse when cold but it seemed to clear up after a few miles down the motorway. I got in it when she got home and, while it was warm, took it for a thrash down the road just to make sure it wasn't the turbo vanes sticking. Everthing went well , no hesitation and idle was okay.

Got in it this morning and lumpy idle is back. It will idle at about 900 to 950 ish then after a few seconds revs dip off  to about 700 rpm as though it is about to die  but after about 1 second it then picks back up again to 900 ish again for a few seconds more. This then repeats. The missus phoned when she got to work to say it was a bit hesitant all the way to work.

The car starts up okay ( glow plugs where changed a few months ago) just an idle and hesitancy problem

I checked a couple of things this morning when it was idling roughly,

I checked the connection to the MAF was clean, That there was no air in the fuel lines, and checked for any obvious loose connections but could not see anything. Glow plugs have been changed a few months ago and it cranks/fires okay.

I did notice when she started this morning that there appeared to be some exhaust gas coming from behind the engine block . ( i checked there was no oil down there that was just burining off. )

I suspect that maybe there is a leak in the exhaust down pipe.

It's going up on  ramps at weekend  to get a closer look but would an exhaust leak in the front downpipe cause idle problems?  I'm thinking maybe if air is getting in then the lambda sensor might be getting confused and affecting fuelling?

Oh and there are no warning lights on the dash.

Also is there a cam/flywheel sensor on these ASV engines?

Anyone else had similar issues?

cheers

This sounds like the problem I had any idea what it was can't find any other posts

When was the fuel filter last changed?

The asv isn't a pd engine

I know it might give you a idea what to look for
