Central Armrest Pad - The Lid part - How do I remove it?

Featured Replies

How is it removed?   My pad is crushed in one corner and needs new sponge.

I cannot see how to remove the furry box (scuse me) under the pad to get access to the hinges.

I have removed two horizontal self tapping screws in the box at the back pointing out sideways and two metric thread in the bottom of the box but the box stays rock solid??????????

From memory if you lift the lid and look underneath you can get a screwdriver in the gap between the fabric and the plastic and you have to prize the front end up and then slide it forward and then you can remove the top fabric part and get access to the staples underneath, check google or YouTube but search for a mk4 golf armrest lid re trim and you'll find a guide as that's what I did.

Thanks

but --- Oof that looks like one of those jobs where I break the plastic, although I have managed to remove the stuff all around the radio and gear stick OK.

The guy on youtube has removed the whole lid assembly from the armrest. Thats the bit I cannot see how to do but perhaps as you suggest I could just pop the top off as he does it with a couple of screwdriver pry levers.

Also he has an air powered staple gun so maybe I'll get the local car trim shop to do it as they have one of those.
