Fabia VRS Tdi - Slight 'misfire' on idle

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time i'm posting a potential issue on my car - would appreciate some discussion on it.

On idle, I have noticed that the engine has a slight hesitation every 2-3 seconds - it is not consistent as the severity changes every time. Can only relate it to a petrol engine misfire, just its more sporadic.

Its not really that noticeable unless your sat in the car with it running - feels like the engine hesitates every so often.

Your views on what this may be would be appreciated.

get a fault code scan and see what it says about the injectors.

Could it be the injector loom? Quite a common fault, is it when the engine is warm or straight from cold?

Before you head off down the injector route. Spend £15 and 10 minutes of your life changing the fuel filter.

Hi Jonny5ive - I will start at this point. Need to get ahold of a genuine Skoda diesel fuel filter, and will report back.

Dann2707 - it seems to be at all times.

leepatrick01 - I will do this also.

Thanks for the input all.

If its a Late 06 on BLT engine this is common, does it improve with a/c and lights on?

http://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/service-parts/filters/fuel-filter

This page will help as there are 2 types of filter up to 05, the larger kind with white drain plug on bottom, later after 05 type smaller

I paid £14 inc vat from gsf yesterday and the running of mine has improved.

Genuine ones are a fortune even from TPS

Id also advise when changing the filter filling it with Wynns Diesel clean 3 then put rest in tank, this stuff works wonders.

Looks like Thurrock or Brixton your nearest branches

Hope this helps

Type In your reg number at EuroCarParts.co.uk and you'll get the right one with home delivery or pick up in store

i try and use GSF as the parts are better quality, ECP are trying to take over the world and flood the market with chinese crap

In your humble opinion of course ;)

I'm afraid I agree, ecp are cheap, but poor quality.

Don't be afraid, its your opinion. ;)

I'm afraid I agree, ecp are cheap, but poor quality.

It just depends on what brand you buy doesn't it?  e.g. Pagid pads from GSF are the same as Pagid pads from ECP except for the price.  While ECP probably stocks more budget/crap quality cheap stuff if you stick to decent brands then you're OK.

I buy from both, but ECP is nearer and more convenient.

Back on topic - I also have a little shimmer but it's improving the longer I own the car (running with a 2 stoke mix) but I also thought fuel filter as they're often "overlooked" come servicing time so I have one in the boot waiting for it to stop raining one day.

does it stop if you press the clutch down?

Thanks All,

does it stop if you press the clutch down?

Engaging the clutch doesn't change it - just seems to be consistently there.

I will go to the dealer and pick one up - learnt my lesson with an old Mercedes 250TD I had. It was serviced by a garage that used pattern parts - sold it on as it kept letting me down after that. Believe the new owner had the fuel filter replaced by a Merc specialist and its not let him down since...

Thread revival,

Having replaced the fuel filter with an OEM one some time ago, there was no noticeable difference in the strange misfire - it seems to intermittently get worse, but never completely goes.

So I am after a diesel specialist in the area to take the car in and have a look. Any recommendations in the SE London/Kent area?

When was the timing belt changed? You need to set the timing with vcds as if it's slightly out on the vernier pulley it can cause a judder on idle. Mine did then had new belt on and timed up with vcds and it idles really smooth now. May be worth a look if you have vcds to see the timing even if it's to rule it out

Need to check engine timing in vagcom group 4 in engine also need to check group 13 and make sure injectors are in sync and not out of scope, I would then unplug the maf, failing all that remove rocker cover and check camshaft for wear loadsa thread on internet about pd camshafts

Thanks gents,

Timing belt was changed 10k by previous owner.

I will need to find someone to do this - well beyond my capabilities, and probably a job the garage I use will not want.

Any suggestions?

Is this a BLT engine ?

Has it had the reducer gasket fitted to EGR pipe to stop stutter?

Mileage?

Hi,

Its an ASZ engine with 126k on the clock.

Am hesitating to put the EGR delete kit I have on it as it will complicate matters.

No reducer gasket fitted as far as I know?

Engine is smooth aside an infrequent and intermittent hiccup so wont put it to cams.

Anyone know someone who can use a machine to diagnose the issue?
