Longer rear seat belts

Featured Replies

My daughter's just been born and I'm taking her home in the car this afternoon. On a practice run with the car seat this morning I found out that the rear seatbelt is too short to go right round the body of the car seat. It works fine, is safe according to the booklet but it doesn't look the best and it restricts access to the baby when she's strapped in place.

Is there a longer belt available, maybe rom a Golf, Bora, Octavia Leon etc?

Didn't know there was such a thing! I'll have a look, would mean I could use on the girlfriend's Ibiza too

Sure most makes main dealers do them, mine were from Ford but fit Audi

Don't shoot me down but would it not have been easier to get an isofix car seat as the vrs should have the option for them. But yes you can get seatbelt extenders

I think ISOFix was an option so the OP may not have it.

Under £15 on eBay gets you a 900mm extender, should be more than long enough.

The pair I bought were much shorter but still gave enough extension for a baby seat.

Hope that helps?

Is office became a requirement on all cars from 2005 I think.

Really? I thought it didn't become a legal requirement until much later than that.

Just found this

Q. Who developed ISOFIX?

A. ISOFIX was developed by Volkswagen and Britax Römer for the Golf IV. The system was first introduced during 1997. Since February 2004, the ISOFIX standard is part of the European ECE-R 44 test standard. Now ISOFIX is being offered by more and more automobile and child safety seat manufacturers. As of February 2011, it is required by law that the system be integrated into a minimum number of seats in all new cars.

What car seat? Are you putting both parts of the belt around the back at the same time?

Usually the chest bit goes around the back and the lap part over the top.

No ISOFIX on either of our cars and I never thought to have them retro fitted or even try the car seat until the day. That's what I get for assuming. I'm going to try the dealers tomorrow and see what they say. If not, eBay it is.

As far as I knew, ISOFIX was supposed to be fitted to all new cars at some point in the recent past but it never happened that way.

Anyway, she's home now and a seat belt extender will do the trick - it's the type that the lap belt goes over the top and the shoulder part wraps around the back but the body of the seat is far too big for the seatbelt to go round properly. 300mm would be enough though.

Cheers for all the suggestions, I'll have her all snug in the car soon enough.

Your se should have it mine does

It 100% doesn't have any ISOFIX points and I can't turn the passenger airbag off. I've had the rear seats completely out in the past and they're not there. Also, the car seat is not an ISOFIX equipped one. It doesn't fit in my mother in law's Corsa that has ISOFIX - we need to use the belts in that.

I bought a set of seatbelt extenders from eBay today so hopefully they'll be with me by Friday.

check your sticker under the boot carpet and put the codes into this tool and see if it comes up with ISOFix on any of them. I'd appreciate if you could post the code here and I can update my options codes topic. Thanks :) (it could be ZKV)

Ill look into that next week I'm only going on the fact it mentions it in the handbook and the seat fixing are exactly the same as the bosses mk2 monte and that has isofix

My SE has ISOFIX. I'd have thought all SE vrs's would have had them tbh.

as I mentioned, I believe it was an option.

ISOFix is covered in my owners handbook from 2003 but the car doesn't have ISOFix.

Got two seatbelt extenders from eBay last week (one for my car and one for the other half's Ibiza) and they've solved my woes. Glad I asked on here now.
