octavia vrs td engine loss of power oct 2013

Featured Replies

hi, only joined forum today after reading information on the above problem that i have experienced this week.

my problem started on sunday oct 27th when i stopped the car to pay at a toll bridge. not realising i was still in third gear i pulled away and engine stalled with warning light and message - engine fault, contact workshop. i drove home with no further problems............until the next day.

i was approaching a roundabout in third gear and once through the roundabout i increased speed and put car into fourth gear.

increased again and i meant to put car into fifth gear but it slipped into third causing the car to lurch forward with high pitched noise and then the glow plug warning light came on, and the loss of power occurred.

i didn't know what to do but i managed to read the manual that said the engine is put into a 'safe driving' mode to get you to a garage. i drove straight to my local garage, explained what had happened and the mechanic said that i should turn engine off and re-start and that that would sort the problem, although i would probably need to go on the diagnostic machine at some stage to get the error corrected.

true enough, the car started up again with no lights and back to full power......only until the next day when it happened again, which was yesterday.

it happened again today coming to work, each time i have stopped the engine and re-started it and carried on with my journey.it mlooks more likely bthat i should get the car on the diagnostic machine soon, does anyone have experience of doing this and the cost of doing this?

i fear it is going to happen each time i drive it until something is sorted

You dont mention what year your car is but first thing to do is get it scanned with VCDS or equivalent, this will give you plenty of information as to what could be causing the issue. (you could even buy a generic code reader off Ebay and have a go yourself.. I have one perm plugged into my 2007 vrs and use it to scan all the time, fixed a few faults too and save a few quid being ripped off by dealer {although my local dealers are pretty good to be fair} )

Usually a dealer diag is anywhere between 30 and 100 quid depending on how friendly you are with the garage, but any decent garage will prob have a scanner and charge 30 or so but it may not be as good and detailed as a full VAG/VCDS scan.

Limp mode can be caused by lots of things, but common on the PD engines is a failed G450 pressure sensor which tells the engine what levels the DPF filter is at, ERG valve can stick also causing the ECU to put you in limp mode.. there are hundreds of variables but the fact a reset seems to sort it suggests its something sticking or failed sensor.

Keep us posted what the Scan finds

Find some one local to you on here from the VCDS map and ask them to let you know what the codes are and then take it from there.
