Rust issue

Featured Replies

Not long bought my 56plate vrs estate and noticed a rust bubble the size of a 5p in the middle of the boot above the number plate . Rust is not something I was expecting from a car so new as my old mk1 vrs didn't have any.I recently got the front wings replaced on my wife's 54plate passat under VWs warranty but can I expect the same from skoda?

I had this on my Octavia, but behind the number plate.

The bloke who fitted the number plates pierced the paint with one of the screws as he lined it up.

It wasn't noticeable until a good few years later though.

The rust patch on your car might not be a fault of the car, does the paint look intact..?

Yes it looks fine other than the bubbling. The bottom edge of the tailgate is also bubbling but I'm sure they'll say that through wear and tear.

Go and ask your local dealer to take a look at it.  Provided the paint hasn't broken you have a fair chance of success, but if the paint surface is broken you've got no chance.

I thought they were fully galvanised?  Generally a Skoda is less likely to rust than most other cars on the road.  Mazdas are shocking for rot, despite their super-tough mechanicals; there are cars 9 years old that are literally unsafe to drive because the front subframes have gone.
