Which Bluetooth kit for my new Octavia L&K?

Featured Replies

Just bought a Skoda diesel DSG, after 2 Honda Accords.

Am changing my mobile to a bluetooth one (Motorola V550), and am looking for hte best car kit for it.

I quite like hte look of hte Parrot 3100 and wonder if anyone has experience of it.

Where is it best fitted in a new Octavia?

Internally fiited ones are a pain in the neck.

You will ideally need to get a radio lead for this car kit so that the voice comes out of the cars speakers. These you can get from www.dashmount.co.uk. Then you need to fit the lovely thing. It took ages to figure it all out as not much of the car uses a switchable live to power up/turn anything off.

For simplicity's sake please use either a earpiece or a simple clip on one.

If you must use an internal fit one, the best place to stick all of the wires and boxes that come with it is behind the climate control panel (it is also the best place for the ignition source)

Can't agree with earpiece point - uncomfortable and have to switch off the radio. Also need holder if you want to dial and one of those cigarette lighter adaters with wires draped all over the dash.

I got a Parrot 3300 for use in my Superb with my Ipaq. The only difference between it and the 3100 is that it has a GPS receiver for sat nav fitted. I can now use Ipaq as handsfree phone and sat nav (Tom Tom software) with all wires hidden, radio automatically mutes and sound goes through radio (for sat nav and phone). Can also use the Parrot's voice recognition to dial up to 200 phone numbers from my Contacts list on the Ipaq. Very pleased with the set up.

It was fully fitted (complete with charger and holder for the Ipaq) by Philip from a company called Justcarkits.com from out of Slough. Very helpful and friendly and a very tidy job for not a lot more than I would have bought the kit for. At his prices it simply isn't worth fitting it yourself. He tells me that he fits about 15 Parrot kits a week so he knows what he is doing.

Look out if you have heated seat, the control unit for them sits behind there and it gets a bit cramped.

Thanks people

I was not planning to fit myself - its too easy to damage something. I am happy using earpiece briefly, but not for long calls.

Understand 3300 if you need sat nav in car only - if i ever get one i want one that covers walking as well, and then you need the GPS in hte unit, as you can't take the car for a walk!

Sadly I am up in hte distant North near Newcastle, cos justcarkits looks good. It does seem as if, even with bluetooth, you have to have a cradle for the phone if you ever want to dial out using numbers rather than phone book as its illegal to hold it.

The other thing is i have a personal phone as well as a work phone, and of course htey are different. I know i cannot use both at once through bluetooth, but an adjustable cradle seems to be the thing.

I got a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth fitted to my vRS along with a SE cradle. Works great, plays through speakers and can be programmed to connect to any one of four phones by turning a dial. Mine was fitted for me by a local company - didn't fancy doing it myself

Now that is interesting.

The local mobile specilaists tell me that you can only use the Parrot with one phone at once. You have to switch the "other" phone off. I like the idea of being able to switch between them.

According to the Parrot website you can pair with up to 5 phones on the 3100 & 3300. According to my handbook (bit for both 3100 & 3300) you can see a list of your paired phones on the Parrot screen and connect or disconnect from any of them using the Parrot. If that is correct your local specialist is wrong.

This sounds good. Has anyone reading actually tried it?

I take it this is referred to on page 10 of hte manual

"Paired devices

List: You can access the list of peripheral devices,

which have been paired with the CK3100.

You have the option of connecting, disconnecting,

or wiping from the your telephone memory."

Thats the bit.

I have not tried cos I only have one phone. However I suspect that you cannot be paired with two phones at the same time. I guess you pair with one and then if you want to pair with the other you use the Parrot to disconnect and reconnect to the new one. That may be what your local specialist means.

How much does it cost to get a kit like this fitted?

Thanks people

If you're in the North East, try KTD on Ellison Road Dunston. The phone number's 0191 460 8300. Speak to Paul King, tell him Dan at NDUC recommended you to him. He'll sort you out.
