I to have the Z ultra, and have found it far supior to my friends Nexus and the wifes iphone, but I do like Sony phones, so i may be biased. I like the fact that the ultra is nice and slim (without the case) and is smaller than the 7" phone it replaces

  • Ordered mine as soon as it hit the Play Store.  My wife has the Nexus 4 and it is brilliant, plus it has the bonus of zero bloatware and updates on the day they launch

  • I've cut one before now, but I did have one to use as a guide

  • Thinking of buying this but not sure if it's best to wait til boxing day for the sales. Anyone know if this phone is likely to come down a little? I've just cancelled my o2 contract and got my PAC cod

I changed to the Z Ultra from a Note 1, I had liked the Samsung but when I had a look at the Note 3 I just thought it was far too similar and the main change I wanted from the Note 1 was a bigger screen as that's the part I use the most.  I thought the Z Ultra would be too big but tried in the shop and fitted in my pocket fine and the screen was beautiful so went with it and not been disappointed, although the screen is huge as you say it's very thin and doesn't feel unwieldy.

It's not a phone I'd make a general recommendation for though, there were some amusing reactions on Wednesday when redeeming the Orange text ticket.

John

Ill await some proper reviews of the N5 before making a decision... Im disappointed by the small battery.

Also would like to see if the LG G2 gets KitKat, as im swaying towards that at the moment, the devs should be able to get a N5 image running on it quite easily.

I know I said I was probably going to get the Nexus 5 to replace my 4, but I managed to persuade Orange to do an awesome deal on a new contract and I got myself the LG G2 as a new handset. At the risk of hijacking the thread, I have to say that I was a little worried about how I would feel with the LG bloatware compared for raw Android but the handset is so overpowered that it is lightening fast. The battery life is also unbelievable - my Nexus 4 used to be quite low by bedtime however I am using the G2 a lot more and it's still on about 60% by the time I've decided to call it a day. Disappointed that the UK only get the 16GB version however I can live with it. So far, all seems good.

It is meant to be getting KitKat soon as well.

Yeah, I saw this...

Have to say (as a Nexus 4 user), the trend does seem to be for bigger - but slimmer phones. To pack a bigger screen in. I find even the Nexus 4 a pain web browsing. having to expand/contract things willy-nilly just to be able to see them properly or access on-screen links reliably.

I wonder what the limit is going to be? Or will "folk" accept ever larger screens in pursuit of better on-screen experiences at the cost of bigger pocketses.

I got my Nexus 5 (with free nexus 7) today. (I've come from a HTC One X)

The new sim hasn't been activated yet, but got it mostly set up.

As above, battery life seems pretty good, better than the HTC

Feels lovely to hold and use.

Its big, but not too big (IMO)

Only things I don't like so far:

No earphones came with it. Come on, LG/Google, tight or what?

The loudspeaker is terrible quality compared to the One X

The lock button is on the side. Again, I'm used to it on the top. I'll get used to it eventually.

Very nice phone though and I don't regret getting it, especially for the money it was

The main Android phones seem to be settling around the 5in mark ((Galaxy S4, Sony Z1, Nexus 5, HTC One)) and then around 6in for the larger devices, I can't see them going much bigger than that.  I found the Note 1 a good size, it fitted in all my pockets without issue and impressively the Note 3 is actually a little smaller physically.  I do love the Z Ultra's huge screen for web browsing, reading text, video and games and the thin, long design makes it a lot more usable than you'd think but it's just a little on the big side which is noticeable when cycling or occasionally when bending down.

Has anyone had any issues with syncing?

My nexus won't sync with my google account. Gmail won't even update. The only way it'll refresh email is when it is turned off an on again.

Sync has been having issues lately.

There was a 4 hour outage a month or so back

Thinking of buying this but not sure if it's best to wait til boxing day for the sales. Anyone know if this phone is likely to come down a little? I've just cancelled my o2 contract and got my PAC code and going to go with Giff Gaff as it works out a lot cheaper than paying monthly.

I've been looking at this as well. My contract is not due to end until next month and I will be cancelling it so not desperate to order now, especially if there is a chance of some post festivity discount.

Was looking around at prices and couldn't believe what people were trying to charge on Amazon market place for this when you can get it off Google Play direct. Then again always some idiot who thinks because it is online it is a bargain!

Google don't generally discount nexus devices, and where they do its always US only

I'll also be going down this route mate

They use the same network as well, so coverage will be just as good

Yeah it's the same reception as o2 but a different name and a lot cheaper.

Can get their £10 a month goodybag which gives me 500 mins, unlimited text and 1GB internet or and extra £2 gets me unlimited internet.

Adding that to the £299 for the phone and over a 2 year period it works out at £22.45 a month and to get the same deal on o2 on a contract is £27 a month so is a no brainer really to just buy the phone sim free.

Getting my daughter the £12 one this month and me next year when my contract is up.

Another good thing is its only on a monthly basis, not a fixed term

When I looked at the unlimited internet deal it did specify in the details of it that tethering was not allowed, so if that is an issue be careful. The 1GB deal does allow it.

Anyone looked into the QI chargers, I like the idea of less hastle but concerned that you have to get it in the exact place, hence the magnetic lock on the official charger which to me would make it difficult to just lift off the phone!

Ordered mine yesterday and it says it leaves the warehouse on the 17th but got an email saying it has been dispatched but can't check the tracking until its in the UK (Google Play Store is in Dublin).

My GiffGaff sim came yesterday and i set that up and my number has been transferred already so just waiting now.....

waiting till january for the new revised version nothing major but the speaker holes are bigger and the buttons have been stiffened up alot.

Had a nexus 4 since Dec 2012 and its been fantastic, now going up for sale

Any links to this as didn't know about this.

Might order myself one if we get a bonus this year

Just done a search and found this http://www.slashgear.com/lg-nexus-5-smartphone-shipping-with-slight-body-revisions-13308750/

They say it's from the models that are getting shipped now so mine should be the revised version.

They were out of stock for a while before and i ordered mine the day after they came back in stock.

Bit of a spot the difference puzzle! Probably makes more of a difference in effect rather than asthetics.

Black 32GB is showing as 2-3 weeks for despatch so looks like an after Christmas job.

No they don't.

I bought my Nexus4 direct from Google at RRP even though it been out for a while.

But the new 2013 Nexus7 was just out just a month at £200.

But I bought one in Nov for £170!!! :-)

And no claiming cash back too (Curry's)!

Because of the update?

Possibly, but the white 32 GB and both 16GB models were showing as 1-2 days! So may just be a popularity thing for the particular size and colour.

Phoned up to give notice on my contract with Tmobile today to stay ahead of the game as contact not ending till 23rd ish of Jan only to be told that if I then phone up and ask for the PAC code later on that counts as reinstating and cancelling the contract again so I get a cancellation fee again under some strange clause! So have said stuff it and got the code and ordered the Nexus 5 32GB in Black.  Says despatch expected on the 27th but didn't expect the £10 delivery charge.

Tmobile guy did his best to convince me a Moto G for £16 a month on a 24 month contract was a great deal with about a 100 minutes and 500 MB of Data and some Texts.  So much for being a loyal customer!  Giffgaff here I come!!!!!!!!!!!
