Nexus 5

Featured Replies

Hoping it'll arrive tomorrow.

Need to get a new sim as mine can't be trimmed as it'll stop it working (it's 7 Years old and the large chip version)

Hopefully the people in the EE store will be nice and give me one for free. Otherwise it's up to 5 days before I can use it.

  • Ordered mine as soon as it hit the Play Store.  My wife has the Nexus 4 and it is brilliant, plus it has the bonus of zero bloatware and updates on the day they launch

  • I've cut one before now, but I did have one to use as a guide

  • Thinking of buying this but not sure if it's best to wait til boxing day for the sales. Anyone know if this phone is likely to come down a little? I've just cancelled my o2 contract and got my PAC cod

Mine was 4 years old and couldn't be trimmed down either, but I moved over to Giffgaff so didn't have to try and sweet talk them.  Best of luck.

Well it's here

Using the migrate funtion of mybackup pro to move most things over.  Play downloaded most of the apps, so just need to pull the data over.

Impressions are very good.  From the serial starting 311, seems it was made in November so not sure if this is a revised one.  Cant tell from the holes at the bottom.

Case wise, it fits well and the cover is very solid, so prob a polycarb insert instead of cardboard.  Only downer besides its cost is unlike the wife's Moto G official flip case, it inst magnetic to keep it closed against the phone.  I looks like it'll offer great protection for the screen, which being 5" is why I went for it over a £5 ebay job.

One thing I have found is the volume button seems very sharp.  The power button is in the case so not so noticeable.  Anyone else have this?

The buttons certainly don't have a rounded feel but I wouldn't say mine are sharp. Not as nice an initial feel as the previous S2 certainly but my fingers are not the most delicate after being burnt and scratched on various surfaces at work so not an issue for me. It was a point I saw raised in some of the reviews though.

I'm suprised the case cover isn't magnetic, sure I'd seen something saying it was!

Mine is a 311 as well, no idea about hole size either.

Did you sort out the SIM card with EE?

Yeah, they gave me a new one in store.

It does have a magnet to activate the sleep function, just not to keep it closed.

I found with the official LG cover, when first used it didn't shut fully but now it shuts perfectly and stays shut.

IMO just about worth the money.

It is starting to, but as I say was hoping it was more like the Moto G case.

Is yours sharp edged when holding the phone one handed?

I'm assuming the earpiece has a cut out as you can answer the phone and use it with the case closed?

I ended up going for the LG G2, found a new one for £345 posted.

What do you think of it ?

Amazon have 16Gb G2s now for £350, and seeing as I got a lot of Amazon vouchers for Christmas/Birthday/work "rewards" I am seriously tempted.

Its honestly unbelievable mate.

The battery life is so good. Easily lasts over 24 hours.

FOUL! REFEREE !

STEWARDS ENQUIRY !

I put a LG G2 in my Amazon basket this morning at £350 (without buying it)

looked again this afternoon and the cost has gone up to £390 !!!!!!

Delete cookies and try again

I thought of that, and checked the amazon app on my phone (which I hadn't been using to look at the item or my basket previously) , it's £390 there too.

Just noticed there is only 1 left too.

that "1 left" is from the "other supplier" fulfilled by Amazon.

The £349.99 was direct from Amazon.

That's such a shame mate.

I didn't reply properly as I was pretty sleepy last night but I can't recommend this phone enough! It's so so fast and the screen is amazing.

Some of the features are great too such as the knock knock where you tap the screen to wake it up, I thought it might be a bit of a gimmick but you wouldn't believe how useful it is. I've found i'm going on other phones now trying to wake it up by tapping the screen only to realise I have to press an awkwardly placed button.

The buttons on the back are great too and take a bit of getting used to. Mine came with the official case (can't believe it costs £45!!) which has the quick window which is incredibly useful. To turn the screen on all you have to do is flip the case.

Often happens on Amazon. They use demand/dynamic pricing. So as demand spikes, prices go up.

For those who have owned this for a while now, any updated reports on battery life? It seems that opinions tend to vary from "it's OK" to "it's awful", but then I guess it all depends on how much you use it. If you tend towards awful, can you give an idea on how much you use it (calls, games, movies, music, etc, etc)?

Oh and one more thing...I tend to shove my phone in my pocket (front) quite a lot of the time, which is fine with my archaic SE W995, but with these bigger smartphones seems like it might be more problematic. The thing I'm slightly concerned about is having it in my pocket, sitting down and ending up snapping it cos it didn't bend as well as the denim in my jeans! Is it reasonably sturdy?

Havent had any problems with phones in my pocket, my old N4 was fine and my N5 is fine, its teamed up with a Ringke Fusion case and an Spigen Glass screen protector.

I have heard the Moto X will be coming to the UK 720p screen but overall maybe a slightly better phone, and battery life looks a whole load better, although i can easily get a day out my N5 thats will emails, web and a few videos.

After the first charge i woke up to it in the morning at 20% and had no phone at work that day! Charged it up again and has been fine except from when it done it again a few weeks ago.

I use it for general Facebook, news etc and i can go 2 days without charging it and it will be around 40%. I only have wifi/mobile date on when i use it and i have the settings so it doesn't "stay awake".

If you install the battery guru app it'll manage turning things on and off as well as putting the phone to sleep when you're asleep or less likely to use it.

well my patience (and obsessive checking of Amazon prices) has paid off.

G2 back down to £350

and one should be in my grubby little mitts tomorrow :)

I didn't have £100+ of Expansys vouchers though

  • 2 weeks later...

For anyone interested Google Play has a 25% off offer on at the moment on their covers for the Nexus range.
