312mm brake help

Featured Replies

Hope someone can help me out.

Gone to fit my 312mm brakes today got all the rite bits. Everything gone rite and fitted all nice.

Until I've gone to put my wheels back on and they will not fit they are hitting the caliper. I have the standard 16s.

I dnt know what's gone wrong.

Thanks

Can you post a picture? Standard 16" wheels should fit over the 312s with plenty of clearance.

Cheers buddy so looks like I need different calipers or bigger wheels.

they could be the mk2 312s, in which case they won't be right. Just a guess.

I will be selling my entire octavia VRS break setup shortly... got other plans ;)

there off a later 5x112 platform car, thus a mk5 golf, octavia, or ttmk2

+1^^ the red calipers are 5x112 fitment, I was sent a set of them from The TT Shop and they don't come close to fitting.

Thanks everyone for your help.

They are mk2 so looks like they going back on ebay unless any1 wants a set.

Question: I assume the disks and carriers/calipers fit OK, together with allowing the pads to be fitted.

Is this "simply" a case of requiring wheels with greater clearance? However much of a PITA it is to be shipped them in error.

No they dont fit mate. The bolt holes are in a different place so wont fit on the hubs I dont think. Nor will the discs fit due to the stud pattern.

Yeh they did fit and to keep them on the car I would need to fit 17in wheels.

If you have managed to fit 312's then 16" vrs wheels fit no problem, the pic of the red calipers posted were for 5x112 fitment and the carriers don't fit the hub. If the calipers are fouling the wheel spokes wouldn't the cheapest option be wheel spacers?

I had 2 sets of carriers mk1 and mk2. So I used mk1 carriers and mk2 calipers.

Can't you send them back and get the correct ones?

I wish I could mate. But got them off ebay

Course you can send them back unless you didnt read the product description correctly and it states its 5x112 fitment or for a mk 2 vrs

You can just get a PayPal dispute open if they didnt list the item properly and then they'll have to refund postage charges.

Obviously only do that if they wont refund willingly, but as stated if youve bought the wrong brakes then thats down to you

There's a few mk2 sets on eBay but only described as 312's and a vague description of what they'll fit, easy enough to think you've bought the correct thing.

I had 2 sets of carriers mk1 and mk2. So I used mk1 carriers and mk2 calipers.

Sorry but LOL - the mystery is solved. After Billy's post I thought I'd gone mental and misread the OP.

Shame you've got a problem with clearance but OTOH it's useful to know that old/new carriers/calipers are compatible with each other.... even if the new carriers aren't compatible with older platforms.

Looking at the prices of calipers and wheel spacers.... And REALLY not liking the idea of wheel spacers on powertrain wheels with that much torque, probably best option is spend the extra £80 on mk4 calipers. Maybe relist the mk5 calipers on eBay or tempt somebody over Seatcupra or ukmkivs.
