Fabia MPI 1.4 Power Loss

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently bought a used 1.4 Fabia MPI and I have had the following sequence of events with it today

  1. The car takes longer than usual to start - turns over for a few seconds before starting
  2. huge power loss when moving away - this is very apparent when doing hill starts, I had to very much fight the car to stop it from stalling
  3. power loss at speed - on the motorway the car would struggle to stay at 60mph going uphill but then fine seem much better downhill
  4. seems a bit more shaky than usual when idling
  5. engine management light stays on - this one has only just started

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

Hugh

Sounds like a faulty ecu, I've got an mpi aswell which is horrible on idle due to the emission settings plus its never been great on a hot start. Cold starts first time but if I've been driving and restart it takes a few seconds longer. I used to have a polo which done exactly as described above, disconnect the battery completely and reconnect. It should temporarily clear it, get it on diagnostics and have a look.

 I'd start with a code read. Post up the code/s and we may be able to help more.

Sounds exactly like mine. Minus the engine management light, haven't had that..yet. :/

Could be the front lambda, disconnect the plug and take it for a drive, if no change then that'll be the culprit.

I've got a 2002 skoda fabia 1.4 mpi I've got the same problems however I had cylinder misfire so I got the coil pack changed and was running fine for a few weeks but I'm getting the same problems, loss of power, stalls when left idle. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks Daniel

My fabia is now fixed and running how it should. Had a new loom fitted between battery and alternator and new sensor and maf. Sorted! Dont know which it was as fitted all at same time. :)

hi, my 1.4 mpi is doing the same sort of thing, will drive for so long then a weird misfire and loss of any decent acceleration, and really dodgy idling, plus increased fuel consumption....help!
