Central Locking ...or not !

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 Fabia 1 sdi -- which, apart from usual, liveable, glitches, has been going quite well

Yesterday, I parked up as normal, got out and locked the drivers door with the key (no remote system), as I usually do .. 1 turn rearward.  As usual, all doors locked and pins went down.  As I was about to walk away ( a few seconds) all doors unlocked and the two front windows opened !  Total closure in reverse!

Is there any simple and fool proof way of re-setting the system?

Anyone have any clues ---- don't want to have to leave the car unlocked for the rest of it's life !

Try this.

Lock the door

Unlock the door, however keep the key turned in this unlock position for around 5 seconds (Windows will start going down)

Lock the door and keep the key in lock prosition right until the windows go back up.

see if that fixes your issue

Thanks, s0niX. Mixed results to that one :-)  With key in drivers door, held in unlock, windows go down as before. But now the drivers door will not lock at all using the key. However, the passenger door now locks and unlocks as it should. Previously it would only lock and unlock itself on the key and not operate the central locking.

At least I can now lock the car, albeit from the wrong side -- so I am grateful for that :-)

No worries...

Sounds maybe like a dodgy lock barrel?

The electrics on this car are flaky to say the least --- I must admit I discount common mechanical failure right away ( which I know I shouldn't)

That's weird, i didn't know you could close the windows with the locks... Does it work on the remote as well? My car has the bad habit of locking itself up about 5 seconds after i unlock it. On the other day it caught me out and i had to call the AA at the BP garage... Imagine my face when i'm filling up and heard the sound of the locks arming... with the key AND my wallet inside... lol
