I've had a look but couldn't find an answer to my question elsewhere so here goes.

 

My cigarette lighter socket died the other day. My father in law "helped out" by pulling the unit out and cutting the wires to the base of the old unit so that it came out completely. My question is - does the Halford's universal cigarette lighter work and how do I get he surround through the hole in the console - the light unit on the side seems to preclude feeding it in through the top and I don't think it'll go through from underneath!!

He shouldn't have cut the wires as there should be a plug on the end to pull off the lighter itself...

What centre console do you have 'Jumbo box' or the poverty one? The latter is easier to remove (I have one sat under my desk).

I also have a spare VAG Octavia lighter socket sat on my desk. If you want it let me know.

In theory the official way with a VAG lighter socket is to put the black ring into the hole, clip the socket to the lighter then wiggle/push the lighter into place.

Or remove the console trim and do basically the same thing in a slightly different order.

Not sure which one I have - I only drive it!! However, as everything else in the car is minimum spec, I would think the poverty one!!

 

I'd be very grateful for the lighter socket, I've pm'd you - it'll give me something to do over the weekend or whenever it arrives!!

I did change mine. got one of a 2007 vw polo and wired the lit surrounding of the door open/close switch
