This seems to be covered on many threads which all come to different conclusions

some say to use 75w75 others 75w80 others 75w90 and some say dealer only

what do you guys recommend ?

 

i got quoted £28 per half litre from skoda which seems pretty ridiculous 

Skoda dealer is taking the wotsit. Try TPS if there is one near you. Or a vw garage. Get the proper VAG oil.

when ever ive used tps they have been same price as that dealer

I've heard these prices on the vrs gearbox. There was a threat not ling back where someone suggested the oil for a different but similar 6speed gearbox. Can only suggest the search button as this has been talked about before.

On other makes I've always found Opie Oils to be very helpful, and also good price-wise

The oil for my old 5 speed octy was about £10/litre from TPS. I use them because they are very helpful and the prices are pretty good, they will discount against ECP or GSF prices.

In the build threads hutchy??? Had changed his and shows the tools plus the oil he used, but its a risk not using the exact one dealer recommends. Might be pricey but a new gearbox will.cost more. Saying that ill probably go down the beat price route when I eventually do mine.

i dunno its looking at around £150 mark in oil for the specific oil for that box .... a very good condition second hand box sold on here for less than that recently 

ok thats a bit more pricey than ive heard before, thought it worked out around £70, and i thought that was bloody steep!

yep last few times ive had quotes from skoda and tps theyve been stupid .... £100 for a track rod (without end) £28 for 500mls gear oil £200 to paint a spoiler 

Just had a search on here and Jesus, what's so special about the gearboxes in the vrs?

I uses high quality redline oil in my been in a year and been fine it's top high quality oil, cost me two tubs £32 Call Camskill or redline Camskill check with redline before selling.
