Is your Fabia, loving or hating the cold right now?

Featured Replies

Mine seems to be between two minds.

On the one hand it seems to be lapping up the cold dense air around and performance from the engine is just peachy, even after sustained periods of enthusiastic right foot   :)

On the other hand I've just started to notice a few little squeaks and creaks on a morning, all very minor, but not dissimilar to myself getting out of bed when the house is cold.  My house is at the end of an unmade road and in my mind it sounds like he's having a bit of a grumble.

Lastly I've lost a couple of MPG's on my run to work. :(

How is yours getting on?

Lose a few MPG on a shortish run as the oil takes longer to warm up.

I just did a 60 mile run up to Aberdeen Airport, 6.30 am start, -2*0c, max temp 3*oC

& the oil temp never showed above 86*oC, 46 mpg average.

Started back, 10am, 6.5*oC ambient, same speeds, oil showing 92*oC,  42 mpg Average.

Tesco Momentum, (Winter spec min 99 ron,)with nice fresh clean cool oxygen and the engine loves it.

I look forward to getting back to the same or better than last winters fuel consumption, which i get easily over 400 miles from a brimmed/vented tank full,

and still have a 50 mile plus range showing.

The past few months that has been 360-370 miles from a brimmed/vented tank and takes another 45 litres or so to brim it..

Using around town when the temp is 2*oC or so and only a few miles on each journey, cold start every time,

and it can drink a gallon or more for only 20 miles. 200-250 miles for 10 gallons

Hi George, I've been noting the effects of the new oil on the 25 mile run into work at around 6°c ambient the oil temp maxes out at 84-5°c.

If I switch from motorway to back roads and do the same the temp rises to 92 but returns very quickly to around 84.

Before the temperature drop I was noting it running around 5°c ish cooler than previous.

My MPG is being hit because at the coldest point (start) of my journey to work I have a Nursery run through Yorkshire hills with lots of inclines. When cold this section is all done at 10-15mpg (maxidot)

Do one!

....that is all :)

Sparkly,

not just the oil & filter change, but your Map and new plugs might well having you getting a better economy when its below 2,400-2,500 rpm with oil heated up, & just on Charger.

Also when on Turbo but in the cooler weather once up to temp, but oil not going into the high 90's.
