traction control

Featured Replies

Hi i just wondering if any one else has heard a funny mechinical type noise when powering the car around a round about trying to defy gravity and the limits of grip. Im assuming its the traction control / lsd doing its stuff.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Would suggest that is the XDS

Thanks but what is the xds is it something to do with the lsd. Would this make a noise.

Worth googling  'skoda xds'

or,

'vw electronic differential lock (xds)'    there is a good site that should explain all.

It is the Electronic front diff,  instead of a mechanical front diff like a LSD.

****Worth checking that it is still on the 'factory setting'****

if you have bought a previously owned car, because someone may have adjusted the setting.

Do not mix up TC (Traction Control) which you might chose to switch off, ESP Electronic Stability Programme

and XDS (or just EDL).

This is what you can now get as an Option on some VAG cars & standard on some soon. 'VAQ'

This is EDL, VW 'Electronic Diff Lock'.

its the XDS braking the wheels. (more accuratly the wheel thats spinning..) its the electronic diff, when you get wheelspin, it brakes the spinning wheel, sending the power to the other wheel :)

Cheers thanks for your replys. So in a nut shell the is normal?

yup, I find you get MILES better traction when pushing on if you turn the traction control off, then its all the diff doing the work.... ergo: you dont loose any power, its redirected, the traction control  saps power...

just read your OP, you could also have the ESP reigning you in if you are pushing limits..... on understeer it will brake the inside rear wheel to control it...

(not reading the link) you saying I can't tell between XDS and ESP George?! :ninja:

No, i am posting for the OP's question to give him more info, reading and explanation, i think you know your stuff.

Just checking ;) you are always helpful George :)
