Temperature gauge

Featured Replies

Hi.

The oil/engine temp gaude on my 51 plate octavia vrs seems to be packing up. Its stays on vold even when the engine is hot. It soesnt apear to be moving at all.

Any ideas? Fuse or sensor etc.

Could be the temperature sender. The display on my car was erratic (at various times it would stay on zero, rise half-way and drop back, act normally, etc.) It was fixed by replacing the sender (incidentally, the dealer I took it to "couldn't find a fault"; but the independent garage where I last had it serviced showed me the VAG-COM printout, pointing to the sender).

It's not an expensive component, and I imagine replacing it would be easy enough for a competent DIY'er to do.

Mmm would have to agree temp sensor.

Not expensive though

You could try wiggling the wire where it goes into the sender, like my man at the Skoda garage did a few months back when my own temp gauge stayed at zero all day. The sender on a 1.6 petrol is on one of the water hoses at the top of the engine, don't know which one it is though. Have someone inside the car with the engine on tickover (and warmed up!) and tell them to yell out if the needle goes up. Might save a few bob......

I've got this on my Fabia. Sometimes shows the temperature, sometimes shows the engine is cold (even when you're giving it some stick).

Ran a diagnostic yesterday and it was the temperature sender. Not expensive, and not difficult to change (If only I could find the damn thing).

I think the temperature gauge is for water not oil.;)

Yup.
