Best method of repairing loose Door Seal

Featured Replies

Hi again

My newish to me Fabia SDI Estate has developed colander like properties recently. Sorted the water coming into the boot via the high level brake light. Got to sort out the door cards this weekend following the instructions from the other thread.

But also noticed that the door seal is coming loose at the top

Whats the best way of fixing this ? hopefully not by having to buy a brand new seal. Sorry if its a newbie question, been 20 years since I been fiddling with cars so have to learn from the beginning.

Can you just clean up the old knackered glue, then reglue (with what  ?)   Its not massively loose but know it will get worse and worse unless I do something about it.

Cheers

Andy :-)

I haven't had mine off the furby but usually there's metalwork somewhere in these seals to encourage clamping. As that ages and flexes, it fatigues or rusts depending on exposure.

best option is going to be replace seal. However, if it isn't leaking, or if it's generally sound, try a tube of roof and gutter sealant.

I had the same problem on my rear door seal.

This is what I did.......

Bought some black silicone adhesive from b&q.

Cleaned the seal and metal work where they meet.

Put the adhesive on the metal work and seal and leave for 5-10 mins.

Get a tea towel or something similar and fold in half.

Position the seal where you want it.

Place the tea towel over the door where the loose bit of seal is.

Close the door with the tea towel still in position and take care that the seal stays in position.

Make sure the door is closed all the way and carefully pull the tea towel out and it will force the seal to sit tight against the metal work.

Leave for as long as possible.

You may need to fold the tea towel twice.

Cheers Vindaloo and Adam.

Will give it a go at the weekend when I do the leaky doors :-)

Adam, any hints on how best to get the dried on glue off the seal / door frame ? Dont want to pull it too much so just been using a gentle picking action with a sharp pick tool but think will need something more to get it all clean to be ready for the new stuff.

Thanks again

Andy :-)

Just been to check on mine.... That bit's not supposed to move, is it. The bit in question is more wind proofing than water proofing.

How do you intend to do the doors? Sealant or alu tape?
