Wobble Bolts

Featured Replies

What are peoples thoughts on these?

I searched for similar threads but couldn't find any.

With VAG alloys mostly having a PCD of either 5 x 112 or 5 x 100 I thought wobble bolts might have been mentioned more.

The reason for asking is I've been looking at used Audi alloys to use on my MkII Superb as winter wheels but a lot of the ones I like are 5 x 100 which won't fit my 5 x 112 stud pattern.

I know on other forums discussions around their safety is questioned and often become heated. For the record I won't be using them as I too am unconvinced they are a good idea but it seems lots of people use them with no issue.

A nice set of wheels here (cheaper than steels from www.mytyres.com) but due to them being 5 x 100 they are no good for me...

Thanks!

I thought they could be used for a small difference (say 4x98 wheels on a 4x100 hub) but nothing that size of a gap? Either way they're not something I'd want to try personally

Oh god, hand on face moment here i think.

^ as above. . You might get away with a few mill but 12mm . . I doubt. .otherwise alot more people would be running 5x112s on 5x100 an vice versa.

Looks about as safe as cutting your brake lines

They are used to fit jap 5x114.3 to VAG 5x112

Or similarily small differences

Def will NOT work on 5x100 - 5x112 wheels!!

There are LOADS of decent wheels in 5x112 fitment there are loads of audi wheels very similar to the ones pictured that are 5x112 + all the merc wheels + VW mk5 golf/ passat platform cars etc...

Flippin millions of 5x112 wheels. Newer big Audi stuff, Golf upwards VW stuff, Merc (will need spigot rings to bring the centre bore down) etc.

If you really want to run 5x100 wheels on a Superb then the only way to do it is adapters.

No pic sorry, but I drew up 100 and 112mm PCD rings last night, and 12mm bolt holes on the 2 rings barely rouch each other. Even if you don't think that wobble bolts are dodgy, there's no way they'll accomodate that difference.

After 1.5mm you have to start waisting the bolts. For 6mm you would be taking off 9mm (2 x 4.5mm) so it would be waisted to 5mm. I wouldn't drive a car where the wheels are held on by M5 bolts :)

What are peoples thoughts on these?

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ... don't ever use anything like this on the open road where you are among other people and drivers, children and dogs ...

please ...

Soooo, explain to me, a manufacturer makes a wheel bolt to the minimum price/safety ratio it can get away with, then some one designs and makes a bolt to fit the wrong sized wheels by reducing the diameter of the bolt considerably, does that sound like something you should use to attach your wheels?

Fine if you use it as a trailer queen show car, but in general usage, I could imagine a vehicle examiners zealous little face light up if he found these on a vehicle involved in an accident.

I've got some older 16" audi wheels with tyres in 5x112 looking for a new home if you are interested?

You need to be signed up as a Freedom member of the site to advertise your wheels fella.
