Donking noise from fuel tank area !?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Having a rather strange going on at the moment on my Octy 2 VRS LTD edition....

To cut a long story short... Have had a bit of a donk at the nearside back end, suspected ARB drop link. Last weekend i swapped the drop links left to right to confirm.. and sure enough the donk has swapped sides. Ordered a new pair of links on Ebay (Febi Billstein which im led to believe is whats on it from the factory)

I havnt fitted the new links yet due to the weather, but I now have a new donk. I got the girlfriend to drive me a around whilst i was sat in the back, with the offside seat base lifted and the carpet up and the donking sounds for all the world like its coming from above the fuel tank. I lifted the rubber bung out to access the tank sender unit and cant find anything loose.

The sound sounds like a stone or similar bashing against the fuel tank and the floorpan... Has anyone ever experienced this, is it even possible (I cant remember if there is even room between the tank and the floor)

Any ideas would be greatfully recieved :-)

Thanks

Dan

I've got exactly the same noise! Did you find out what it was? no drop links or any bolts loose with mine and shocks are new

I had a rattling / knocking noise on my car which turned out to be a loose heatshield under the back of the car. There is one on the top of the axle where the exhaust passes over which was missing a clip on mine, a new clip and the noises have gone away. Maybe worth a look.

Cheers dilksie, I did spot one heat shield a bit loose, wonder if there's one above the fuel tank area as well? its a strange one, sounds like clonky drop links but their only a few months old.

When mine was loose the noise was that bad that I seriously thought a shock or drop link had failed.
