From VRS to Yet

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Looking to change my 08 diesel VRS estate to a second hand Diesel 4x4 Yeti early next year. After a bit of research would like an Elegance so to get a few extras and if I am correct, xenons as standard. Can't decide on either a 140 or 170 bhp the real reason being changing to a 4x4 but also enjoy the power in my VRS. Looking for a 3 yr old model ( actually prefer the look on the pre fL with its frog eyed lights) with about 30 to 40000 miles. Was the heated windscreen available on the pre FL.

Found these forums very useful before so just looking for some help and advise on which or what to look for

Thanks

Hi Jerbear. The heated windscreen was available but on the SE/SE Plus/Elegance it was a £215 option and only standard on the L&K. That's based on the brochure I have from some 6 months ago when my elegance (with heated windscreen) was delivered.

I had three vRS Tdi's prior to my Yeti ... went for the 170 just to keep the power I enjoyed in the vRS's.

The heated windscreen was available when I ordered mine in May(ish) 2011.

The heated screen was optional in 2010-you will have to be lucky to find a second hand car where the first owner specified one.

You're right about xenons standard on the elegance and L&K but a very pricey option on lesser models-they are stunningly good and well worth having. I have had 3 vehicles now with them (Lexus is300 and two yetis) and would think twice now doing without -they are vastly better and really make a difference.

I tried an Octy CR VRS immediately before the CR140 Yeti - the Yeti felt very nearly as quick, but much more capable, especially, I suspect, as it was a slightly damp day. I bought the CR170 Yeti and then another.

Xenons were standard but the heated windscreen wasn't available on the first.

Thanks for the replys so far. Looks like the heated windscreen might be a no no for a car in my price bracket, but thinking the 170 might be the way forward for me. Probably test drive both just to check, 170's obviously a bit more pricey. Any major faults to look for in the second hand market and are the 4x4's reliable?

Well mines done 75k with nothing major.

There is a poll of members chosen options on this forum, see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/172128-yeti-options-survey/ which you might find helpful. It's not a big sample but it looks like about 10% of those completing the survey specified a heated windscreen. But as it was only an option available on SE, SE Plus and Elegance (not the E or S or any Greenline model), the percentage of higher spec'ed cars with heated windscreens may be a bit higher than that 10%. If you aren't in a rush to change you could be lucky and find something with all the kit you would like.

(The survey of colours, engines and trim levels, if you are interested, is at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/149118-yeti-colour-engine-trim-survey/ . It's really quite amazing what  information you can find on this forum; I wonder if Skoda UK has this level of breakdown at its fingertips?)

Remember that the heated screen only became an option in ... I can't actually remember ... but possibly 2011 (perhaps 2012 MY could it have been?). So examples more than around 2 - 2.5 years old are unlikely to have it.

I ordered my CR170 in somewhere around June 2010 (2011 MY IIRC) and it wasn't an option then.

When I bought my first -in 2010 ex demo one of the downs was not being able to have the screen-i did toy with a retrofit but dismissed it. So in march 2010 I was aware of it as an option that I had foregone by choosing an immediately available car.

Bare in mind that not only does the 170 come with a decent amount of grunt (maps to 205) it also was the only Yeti to come with the 312mm VRS front brakes.

If you are trading a VRS in it's the best diesel to go for IMO.

I've recently bought a 170 Yeti, only 900 miles so far so i'm not putting my foot down yet but it go's really well. Moved up from a Fabia vRS tdi. Totally different engine characteristics as the PD engine in the fabia has bucket loads of torque low down in the rev range, the CR engine in the Yeti seems to have a more even spread.

Used my heated screen in anger for the first time this morning as it was frosty, so glad i specced it on my elegance. Now i just wish someone would invent heated side windows!

so,how about a Yeti RS?

Nice

Yup. As long as it's not lowered or stiffened. Just bung the S3 engine and gearbox in and we'll be fine.
