Loosing Coolant 2012 1.6TDI

Featured Replies

I have read the other threads on this topic with interest.

I have an Octavia which is just under 2 years old and has done about 30K.

The other day the coolant light came on and required nearly a litre to top it up to the max mark.

I am taking the car into Skoda to get this checked and hopefully fixed under warranty.  I last checked the level 3 or 4 weeks ago and believe the level has dropped since then.

My question is are there any known issues that cause this level of coolant loss?

Has anyone else had a similar problem on a relatively new octavia?

I am slightly concerned that Skoda will just do a pressure test, give it a quick look over and say they can't find any problem so it must be OK.

Skoda checked car and found water pump was leaking.  This has now been replaced under warranty.

Do pumps fail often after so few miles?

I have a 2.0TDi and never had problems until 90k but now I started loosing coolant too. Max to Min in about 1 week.

I had cambelt + water pump replaced about 1.5 years, 20k ago at Skoda Camberley . I wonder, what is the warranty for a replaced water pump at Skoda?

Also - the problem appeared 1 week after moving into London, I park my car in the garden and I saw quite a few mice or rats. Is it possible that these lovely little creatures found the tubes under the bonnet to be tasty? Or perhaps they like the alcohol in the coolant?

Water pump but believe more the egr

Could be something simple. Do you see any leakage spots

My new (in 2009) 1.9 TDI was losing water after about 6 months of ownership.  Turned out to be the water pump leaking.  Fixed under warranty with no trouble afterwards.  Seems like a common problem for quite new cars.

My Scout deisel had the same issue. Car 2 1/2 years old & 60k miles. Water pump & cambelt replaced under warranty.

Same issue after 40k, replaced under warranty.

Is it not 2 years, same as cambelt ?

A genuine cambelt and water pump fitted by Skoda will have a 2 year VAG warranty against any defects.

How long is warranty for car

How long is warranty for car

3 yrs or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Nearly 5yr old and nearly 60,000

114000Km and have a water pump leak.

Last 2 weeks have filled up a few times.

Got the under panel out and can see leakage stains on belt side.

I was going to wait till 150000km to do belt guess it's going to be changed now.

Ridiculous i think.

I will go with a Bosch kit that includes the water pump and 3 tensioners.

Almost 5 years with the octavia and I am very sad.

Octavia Greenline II going in for 'diagnostics check' on Wednesday for losing coolant.

First warning light came on last Wednesday 35 miles from home. Added water to about 1/2 full reservoir and didn't quite make it home. Needed to drive 85 mile round trip on Thursday so topped up the reservoir and warning light came on after 55 miles.

Car is 31 months on the road and has done about 38,000 miles. This is the first problem I have had and will hopefully get fixed under warranty without quibble although not looking forward to leaving it with Arnold Clark Skoda in Inverness!!
