Can anyone tell me if traction control (ASR?) was standard spec for a 2008 (08) plate 1.9 tdi sport?

No, the electronic stability programme, which includes anti-slip regulation traction control, was not standard equipment on the Sport model, according to my 2009 brochure. It was a £340 option only. The standard equipment for the Sport in 2009 (on top of level 2 spec, which includes air con) is listed as:

16" bear alloys

3 spoke leather steering wheel

Black protective side mouldings

Curtain airbags

Front fog lights

Glasses storage compartment

Leather gear knob and gaiter

Leather handbrake cover

Lowered suspension (15 mm lower than standard)

Seat belt warning buzzer

Sports body kit

Sports seats

Sunset glass (from the B-pillar back)
