Wet Foot

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

I'm two weeks into my Octavia ownership and I'm chuffed to bits with it, it goes like a stabbed rat when you ask it to, looks stealth, costs less than the competition and makes me smile every time I get into it and discover something new.

I hadn't expected that the car would try and wash me as well though, that was a bit of a surprise.

Merrily trundling along today and decided that the rear screen needed a wash so prodded the stalk to make it happen which eventually it did.  However during the process I noticed that my left foot was getting wet which was interesting.

It seems that the pipe must have sprung a leak somewhere on it's routing through the car causing it to leak into the drivers footwell just by the footrest nearest the centre console.

Has anyone else suffered from "wet foot"  I feel I should address the problem before it develops into trench foot, also I don't want a wet car!

As I see it I have two options,

1. Rip the dash to bits to find the pipe and replace

2. Unplug the pipe at the washer bottle end and don't use the rear wash wipe, thus eliminating any water ingress.

Please can I have some opinions.

Cheers

Tim

I have exactly the same issue, dealer wanted 300 notes to rip the dash out and fix and trust me I have tried to find the pipe in question without total dash removal and it is well and truly buried. Option 2 is the one to go for although as yet I have not got around to doing it as I don't miss the lack of rear wash often enough to worry about it too much

Option 3. Could you run your own length of pipe work from washer bottle through car(along side drivers seat maybe under carpet?). Bypassing original?

I had thought of this but need to see how it is routed into the tailgate so I can work out where to splice into it which wasn't a job for a rainy Sunday. More of a job for Monday morning in the shed at work ;-)

Good luck. Sounds like one of those Pain in the arse jobs! More associated with an old metro than a modern day VAG group car.lol. I think sometimes car manufacturers over complicate things i.e. Joining pipe work instead of one continuous length.

It was and still is a common fault with the mk4 golfs ( been there!) but it is usually a tailgate area issue which is why this particular leakage made me smile.

Why the pipe isn't run under the vehicle I'll never know. Putting it through the dash with all the related electricals seems like such a stupid thing to do.

Hey ho I'll timgineer a solution tomorrow!
