Throttle pedal bottom 'notch'

Featured Replies

I've noticed when at full throttle if I press a little harder there's a 'notch/click' and the pedal goes another half inch or so..... Is this just for kick down on DSG cars?

This is normal - mostly all automatic cars have that. This means: "give me everything you got, bro!"

Mines a manual though, guess they're just using the same pedal for both.

On DSG cars, the "notch" is used to reset the gearbox

On my DSG it's a kick down, used it this afternoon accelerating away from roundabouts on a dual carriageway.

Reset the gearbox with full throttle? eh?

You turn ignition on, fully press the throttle for 20 seconds and it resets the gearbox's memory and will re learn your driving style. Handy if you normally drive in town or on country lanes and are going on a journey involving a roads. It was worth 3mpg on my superb

So it's not there to reset the gearbox, you use full throttle to reset it. Looks like it's just for kick down like I thought.

I think it's just for kickdown.

Strange the manual has it too. They obviously just use the same accelerator for both.

Manual on mine and that last notch is a pain. Well, ok not a pain but it's obviously for the dsg and yet another reminder of the cost cutting. Maybe.

It does both - on my mk2 fabia vrs you could push the pedal to the floor while diving and 'click' you'd get kick down.

But as dobbey says if ignition on position one/two and push the pedal down it will reset gearbox memory.

It appears that in VAG cars it is mainly used with DSG gearboxes, either to reset the box or for kickdown.

In my previous cars, manuals, I had the same "notch" and it's main purpose was to disengage the speed limiter so that I can temporarily exceed the speed limit i've previously set, in case of a quick overtaking for example.

That makes me think : Why don't we have a real speed limiter in our O3's ?

Did something similar on the S-Max hire car I had recently with speed limiter.  If its like the pedal on the DSG cars, then there isn't any extra power to be had - it's just a Spinal Tap No.11 or a Fast and Furious next gear that you forgot about  :giggle:
