Mk2 vRS Short Shifters?

Featured Replies

As above really... Has anyone fitted a short shift kit to their mk2? I believe Forge do one but there might be a cheaper oem option from a TT?? Part numbers would be great if there is such a thing and anyone idea on the ease of fitting??

Easy to fit although Alex (AKS) did mine on both cars when it was in for other stuff - took him about 5 mins each time. TT-S part is the one you need - for mine the p/n was: 8J0 711 046-B although i think there is a later supersession. IIRC there is a thread on here somewhere if you search, but tbh if you just go into an audi parts department they'll sort you out.

Forge one fitted on mine. Awesome mod, makes the gear changes significantly quicker (no numbers).

Tried the TTs one and it didn't fit. Went with the forge and it only takes 10 mins to sort. I'll give you a hand next time your at your parents in York if you like.

Chris - think I might be getting a Forge one off Karl (KBPhoto) on here. Thanks for the offer too - no doubt I'll be taking you up on that!

Hi, You guys talk about Forges quick shift but there seems to be 2. Which one is the "best" , more reliable option. Adjustable seems very unreliable if the adjustment would losen at critical moments......

Advice please

appreciate the input and congratulate you with your site = good in info...pitty you drive on the wrong side... JOKE ;)

The top one does front to back shifts (e.g. 3rd to 4th) whilst the bottom one shortens side to side movements (e.g. 1st/2nd to 3rd/4th to 5th/6th).

Forge recommend that you fit both to get the most benefit but many people just fit the first.

£85 quid for the forge? I paid 20 quid i think for my TTS jobbie from a dealer. Only reduces the throw for front-back movement but that's all you need IMO.

The TTs one is about £30 for the dealer and yes the forge one is far too expensive, just buy a secondhand one as they are near impossible to break and will get caked due to there location anyway

Second hand is the way to go ;)

Is the Audi TT one adjustable?

Not saying it makes a £55 difference though.

The TTS one is not adjustable. For the money though i'm not complaining :) Another factor for me is that it's very stealthy - visually you can't tell the TTS shifter apart from the OE vRS item unless you have them both off the car side by side and even then there's only a few mm difference.

Why would you need a short shifter to be stealthy?

I have the forge one set of the shortest throw and I love it

To hide it from your insurance company perhaps?

 Declare it?

I agree.

I was just hypothesising an answer to your question.
