I've been following the posts regarding alloys in the winter. Mine are already beginning to look a little jaded plus a few scuffs where (not me obviously), but other drivers (wife, son, daughter) have hit the kerb. So I was thinking would it be possible to fit chrome wires? I used to have a car previously with chrome wire wheels with KO hubs, and they did look rather smart, albeit on an E type rather than a hot hatch. My questions are:-

1) Would it look stupid or cool?

2) is it technically possible? I've looked on the web & I can find 16 inch wires but not 17. Would they work with a Fabia vRS, & what will it do to speedometer accuracy, having regard for its lower rolling radius?.

3) The ones I've seen on the web are in widths of 5J, 6J, or 7J. I realise I would need adaptor plates to fit the the splines on the wheels but what width wheel would I need?

4) A person I mentioned it to said that wire wheels with KO spinners would be illegal on a new car under the Construction & Use Act (whatever that is),. Is that right?

You would be fitting the correct tyres to keep the same or very similar Rolling radius/Total diameter.

& Tyres to meet the Manufacturers Speed/Load Rating for a vRS.

Then Modifying in a way to suit what your Insurance company Accept,

or you could try and find an Insurance Company that accepts the suitable wheels.

As to the rest of your idea,

If pretty cheap standard wheels are having a hard time, what are expensive Wire Wheels (Suitably Approved) suitable for a vRS going to cost, and look like after some kerbings.

How do you keep the air in your tubeless tyres?

You do get Chrome Spoked Wheels for American cars up to 24", & these can be  & mostly are now Tubeless.

& New Replacement Wires for Jags, MG's etc also Tubeless.
