Caring for wash mitt

Featured Replies

I bought a good wool wash mitt from Cleanyourcar website 6 or so months back now, and think it's great for washing the car.

However, a couple of weeks ago I went to use it to wash my car, and it literally fell apart, i.e. the leather on the inside just tore up.

Now I can only assume that I haven't cared for the mitt as I should have.

How do people care for their wash mitts?

Sounds a stupid question, but I have another brand new mitt that I don't want to see the same thing happen to!

Cheers,

Al

I spin dry my Dooka Wash pad after every wash and let it dry naturally

Never leave it wet or it will rot

Its now knocking on for 3 years old and still as good as the day I used it for the first time, apart from the dye fading

It costs a little more...but well worth it

I too have a lambswool wash-mitt bought from the same place some 18 months ago.

It still looks, feels and works as it did on day one.

As Chris says...never let it stay wet for a long time.

Once I've finished washing the car I rinse it well in clean fresh water, wring it out, turn it inside out and let it dry. Once its almost bone dry I turn it back again and dry the outside. I'm not adverse to leaving it on top of the radiator...though I expect purists will say that's not a good thing to do!

The reason I say `ALMOST` bone dry when its inside out is because its the devils own job to turn it back again once it dries out completely.

Hope your new one fairs better than your last.

Regards

Mike.

Cheers both.

Chris, what cycle do you put it on in your washing machine? Also, what (if any) cleaning agent do you use?

mandp, I used to turn it inside out in the past, but it was an absolute bloody nightmare to do so!! Especially as the one I use has a section for your thumb!

What is it that does the damage to them? The stuff I use on the car is PH neutral, so can't be that surely? As the very least I always wring it out if only so that doesn't drip all over the floor in the house!!

I don't put it in the washing machine...Just in my spin drier in the Garage and then leave it to dry

BTW....it must dry slowly but fully or it will rot...if its natural sheepskin

Cheers Chris.

So basically if I washed it out after using it, just under the tap, then wrung it out properly and left it to dry naturally then it should be ok?

I think the problem was that I've been putting it in the washing machine (with non-bio), and it's not been wrung out after it's been in there.

Yes..Try that

Or better still....Buy a Dooka!!

+1 on the Dooka wash pad. I had a Meg's wash mitt that worked well but started to fall apart after only a few months. Always rinsed and allowed to air dry but it didn't help. The Dooka (bought in a GB on here) still looks like new after nearly a year.

Alex if you want to have a look at a dooka pad I have one. There great drop us a pm and we can arrange something

I can just imagine the conversation in the Alex household... "just popping over to Brian's darling, he wants to show me his Dooka"!

Dooka wash mitts - the only way to go as far as i'm concerned! Awesome.

I still have two Megs wash mitts going strong - both well used, but holding strong.  I do just rinse under a tap after use and dry on a radiator or stick it on a clothes horse in the spare room.

Xmas is coming Jason!!

They blow away the Megs wash mitts!!

Are they that much better? I've been using my Meguiars Microfibre wash mitt for well over a year now...

Yes...by many a mile!!

Finally managed to get some time to come on here and reply!

Cheers for the info guys!

Looks like I will be purchasing a couple of these when this one no doubt breaks up....

Luckily I had a 2nd wash mitt that was still in its packaging and brand new, so using that for now. I'm just rinsing this one under the tap immediately after use, wringing it out and then hanging it up to dry. We'll see if that makes a different to this one!

Cheers again :-)

Being on brisky is costing me a fortune lol just ordered from dooka wash pads and mit lol

You wont regret it...They are simply .....fantastic!!

I used a meguires mit earlier today and quite liked that so if you all think dookas are better im well happy lol
