Rattling noise on 1.2tsi

Featured Replies

Right the wifes 1.2tsi seems to be making a ticking noise when cold. On popping the bonnet it seems to be coming from the top of the engine and eases when warmed up. Has anyone else noticed this in there fabia?

Quite a lot of previous threads/posts on this ranging from wastegate sounds to, as I was told by Skoda fuel pump noise.

Usually nothing to worry about but have it checked out by a Skoda dealer would be my thoughts.

It seems to be a characteristic of these engines. Cue the tech guys!!

Probably the HP fuel pump, the thing with the large stainless hex head behind the rocker cover about midway. They tap rapidly even on new engines, only noticeable at idle and stood in front of car or with bonnet open.

It will probably be the plastic fuel lines here..fd6897e7-ba48-4c9e-a74d-d7eed06b32f3_zps

this is a known fault with skoda and they sorted mine out through warranty 20 min job, its the two plastic fuel lines that run down a tunnel in the body work that are vibrating  imo.

Thanks for replies,i had fuel line fixed under warranty so i reckon its coming from the fuel pump. Not that noisy but annoying. Will keep an eye on it as i have a yr left on warranty.

The only thing ive noticed. With the 1.2tsi engine on start is a chain rattle till it tenses, anyone else get this?

Yeap!! Mine does this too. And if you give it a search many VAG 1.2Tsi owners reports the same.

But I've noticed that this chain rattle is more often when oil is in the middle of the dip stick. My Roomster tends to consume 0.5lt of oil every 6.000 to 7.000 Km. That gives us a summary of one litre from oil change to oil change, or once a year. So I try to keep the oil level at the area A of the dipstick instead of the middle of area B.

Called my dealer and told me that a chain change is almost sure needed, but the cost will be on me since the car is out of warraty. I am really sceptical for two reasons. A) Because that sound comes up occasionally and not in every start up. B) I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT I CANNOT SERVICE REGULARLY AND IT IS NOT MY FAULT BUT PART'S FAULT.

Reason B makes me think after thirteen years and three Skoda cars... Skoda simply never (again).
