Rusty tail gate

Featured Replies

Took my fab in to my local dealer on Friday afternoon having just had the car washed I was told it still wasn't clean enough for the guy to take photos.....

Anyway he said he thinks it may have already had a paint job... ( I have no record of this and can't personally see any difference in the paint, but hey ho).

He also asked if I had any problem with the rear doors leaking. I know this is a common issue, but I don't see how damp carpets is going to affect the rust on my tailgate? Whilst looking at the car I also mentioned that the tailgate release button, between the number plate lights, has totally rusted inside and has never worked in the time I've owned the car. He was quite shocked at this and said he'd never seen that before. Anyone else had this?

Anyway he's asked to have my car in for the day on the 11th for it to be properly cleaned and for him to compile his report and take photos.

Fingers and toes crossed Skoda give him the nod to sort it under warranty!!!

Good luck. The guy that came to look at mine made no assumptions, just took the paint depths, some photos and let skoda decide.

I took mine in today to be done, and got a Fabia replacement :) really happy.

He was able to tell the pannels that had been painted because of the depths of the paint.

My tailgate paint was particularly thin and he thinks that's probably why it had the issue.

I really hope they do yours!

When I get it back I'm going to be removing the bump strips on the doors because they sometimes bubble up which is also a warranty issue and I want to get it done before the warranty is out

Glad they sorted yours :)

The guy was really helpful and did give me the impression he would do everything he could to get it sorted for me.

And yeah, I'll admit I did play the young blond female card :P But hey a smile will get you a long way!

Just fingers crossed that doesn't all go out the window when I drop the car off next week with my other half in tow haha

Soooooo took my furby to Prestons in Chelmsford yesterday for them to create their report.

Dropped it off first thing and got a phone call at midday saying they were all done and the car was ready whenever I was.

I wasn't able to get there so my o/h went in to collect the keys for me before then coming to get me from work.

The report was sent to Skoda late morning and the dealership had an answer by 5pm that evening.

Skoda have said yes :D I'm gona book it in for the new year and they've said I can have a courtesy car but due to being only 21 I have 2 insure it myself.

I'm chuffed to bits!!!! If you're ever in Essex and need a Skoda dealership, I can't recommend Prestons in Writtle, Chelmsford highly enough!

What a result. I had to wait 3 weeks just for them to tell me if it had been accepted. I had the worst experience possible at Caffins skoda in ashford.

Not happy at all.

But my tailgate has now been done and it looks good :)

I had assumed it was going to take a couple of weeks at least (possibly even longer due to xmas!) so was really surprised when my o/h arrived with a result already!

Sorry to hear you had such trouble with yours but glad it's done now :)

They did mine and they know that my car has over 150k miles on it.

Try another dealer ship

Mine went in with over 100k on it! Very little history and not a single dealer stamp.

I agree with gfwc, try another dealer. Sounds like they're just lazy tbh.

What age is your fab?

  • 3 weeks later...

So D day has arrived..... I've just had a call from Prestons to say my fab is done and I can collect her tonight.

I only dropped the car off to them on Monday morning and have been given a 11plate 1.2tsi fabia mk2 in the meantime.

I will post a pic of the final result once I've got her back :)
