EPC light and horrible running

Did i not tell you stay away from injection cleaner as well , and find out what was actually up.

Maybe not, i tell so many that and get ignored.

You should not need to mention it to a VW Group trained technician about the water pump.

The Water Pump is a more common cause of the symptoms you have with a twincharger than the coils, yet they go with the coils first,

that is ok as long as they then get on with removing them as being the issue and get on with what is actually up.

As to Spark Plugs, some might recommend NGKBKR7EIK (2667)  and they have been used over the years on standard and remapped Twinchargers & 8's as well.

I tried them and gubbed a plug in 7,000 miles, other have in 5,000.

Uses need to be aware, they are not fool proof.   That is why i swear by DENSO.

I did swear by sweat by denso to be fair, Then felt bad when I told another member  to buy them and they never worked!

THE NGK’s seem to be the go to plug just now , As daft as it sounds it can be like spark plug roulette with these cars, definitely   NGK or denso....if there’s Bosch numbers in just now get them changed.

Nothing changed in the past 5 years from what others learned from using them in the past.

You reduce the lottery by buying only from trusted traders, and knowing about the gap, and if there are other issues causing the problem with a twincharger it can show in the spark plugs.

There is the case of the blind leading the blind sadly just now as in the past.

I’ve only had mine a couple of years and there’s been countless story’s of dealers fitting the wrong plugs, In that short time I’ve owned mine I’ve learned never  to trust skoda  dealerships with these cars.

IMO the best  performing plug for  standard mk2 VRS have been proven to be NGK BKR7EIX.

The spark plugs and some donor coil packs haven't stopped the misfiring so today's review means it could be more expensive and time consuming work required to sort this issue...

Hmmmm looks like you'll need to get a compression test done and move on from there. Usually a scored/damaged cylinder or piston will flag up an EML light so I wouldn't get too worried just now. What condition were the old plugs In?

Thanks. The main dealer did a compression test and it indicated no problems. I am not sure as to the condition of the old plugs but they were possibly the originals, done 32k miles, worse case. Even with new plugs the misfires remain across all cylinders...

So it’s flagging up codes for all 4 cylinders or have you been told this by someone? It’s very unusual to lose all 4 cylinders as with these cars usually one goes with faulty plugs/coils and at a push 2 cylinders.

If indeed all 4 were showing misfires i’d Expect it to be the wrong plugs or coils.

Yes all four cylinders before new plugs, after new plugs and just now with donor coils. The plugs were the correct part number according to the independent vag specialist I just had inspect the car today. He diagnosed whilst driving also. I have print outs from the skoda dealer (before new plugs) and the independent today showing the misfire readouts on all four cylinders. Then a printout from skoda dealer showing no misfires after new plugs but I don't think they took the time to road test the car as misfires returned soon after I left the dealership last Thu.

That is strange! Mixes things up a bit now that all four are failing at the same time,Could lead down the road of injectors or fuelling causing the issues however fuel should pull up an error code.

Indeed, frustrating just trying to find out what the hell is causing the problem so I can get it fixed and be on my merry way. I may take it to another garage and see what they say.

Was the problem ever solved and could you share the solution. Thanks!

@nikasp

Are you having an issue with a CTHE Twincharger?

Is it just the EPC light on, or that and the Engine (Exhaust Emissions) Lights.    Is this just recent or what is the story / history?

Maybe I should create my own thread but this is a Mk2 63kW/86hp 1.2 TSI, produced 2012-09.

I bought it less than a week ago and the owner said it sometimes stutters on 3rd gear when cold but stops when it’s warm - could confirm that.

I’ve driven it home since then, 1 hr in 70-120 km/h and went to get winter tires a 1,5 hour trip in highway speeds = no issues. Now on short trips it often hesitates and EPC blinks but today I got the orange Engine light as well and it stays on… of course my VAG scanner died after an upgrade.

Can’t edit my previous post but the engine code is CBZA.

Reading to see if there are Fault Codes does need done

Maybe there are misfires.

Is there a record of when the spark plugs were changed.

Yep, will try to find a decent priced place. Very costly at VW and I assume Skoda as well, I think they even share office and workshop here. Went over all papers and no sign of spark plug change but there is almost a 4 year gap, last owner did not save any papers but the car is in excellent condition - to the eye. Could confirm via the shop that it’s been serviced a year a go.

Best have the car serviced.

At least look at the Air Filter yourself and see if clean and dry.

The Spark Plugs will need checked, so if out as well to be replaced.  The Ignition Coils might be dodgy or a lead.   There is cylinder 3 lead that should have armouring on it.

Plenty similar threads.
