Or can point me in the direction of a good one?!

My missus is buying an '07 Fiesta Zetec S TDCI and I need to learn a few things :D

I knew there would be at least one member here who used to drive and mod one :D

SWMBO had a tdci one, woefully underpowered as standard for a chassis that is up to much more power imho

Im a member on quite a few ford sites, Passionford is the place to head followed by fiesta owners club. Tbh i looked at fiesta zetec s tdci's before i decided on fabia and found they were all lot more money for not much car as they hold value quite well and my mate runs a garage and he told me to steer clear as the turbos like to go bang for fun!

I have a zetec s tdci great little cars the one I have has been in my family from 2008 they suffer from paint chipping off around the bottom of the front wheel arches/sill area injector seals are very common for going and can cost a bit to fix. The alloys are very soft and buckle easily the gear linkages can seize up easy fix but it's a pain when it happens if changing fuel filter your self you need an electric pump to reprime you will struggle with a hand pump. My one has 175k on the clock ford put a new engine in it at 50k due to them changing the water pump seal and not replacing the timing belt didn't even get the car home from the garage when it snapped. It has been remapped for the last 100k they really shift after that quicker than my standard fabia I have seen a few people say the fuel pumps go after 100k mines has just gone now ( really pain of a job and costly ) although it's on 175k so it's had a good life. Very cheap to run 30 for a years tax and even driving round town I was averaging over 50mpg well that's what the dash mpg was telling me if you get 1 with a good history you should be fine.

ZSOC here, much more active on here though. My mate has a mk7 ZS TDCI, very underpowered but handles very well! Pretty sure it would hammer my Fabia around the bends!

Anything you would like to know I can ask my mate :)

+1

Doesnt she want a nice little yellow fab jay?

Wouldn't say that a tdci with a remap is faster than a standard vRS myself, but the standard handling is better than a vRS.

So, hybrid of Zetec s chassis and vRS engine it is then!

Definitely not, just meant it handles a lot better, my Fabia would put pull it by miles even when the mk7 is mapped (not that I've proven this or anything ;) )

Cheers for the info people

They all have their problems, even the more expensive ones ;) so looked and tested all we (well, I :D ) can, sent the AA to inspect it and take a calculated risk. She's paying about £3k for it, it's on 102k and been serviced correctly.... it's cheap because it is tatty but a few hundred quid chucked and a few man hour chucked and it will be decent again.

Cheers Dan. Nothing specific yet, just know I have a few bits that need doing already, plus she has started a mods list :o  so I know I'm going to be pulling bits off :D

Funnily enough I have previously suggested it, even pointing out Pasty and his missus both have one, but she can't bring herself to buy one cos I do :D

Oh no!!

Please tell her not to!

Funny that, that's what she said about your 320D....nothing personal, she just really hates BMW as a brand

What's your story with them Jase? I've not done much research, I've left her to it and just helped pick which one, but TBH, the one she's bought does drive really well considering I went from mine into that, plus, she's going from an '05 1.6 Civic Vtec into it, so she already loves it as it feels quicker due to the turbo/torque :D

Just the build quality and general feeling of cheapness

I had an 06 focus st-3. Hated it! Worst car i've ever owned, owned it for 4 weeks and flogged it.

My mate has a 59plate focus rs, yes it may have 300bhp but same again, inside its just cheap, plastic doorcards, just no quality. Even where it has keyless start the ignition barrel you'd get on a car without it just has a plastic cover over it. No seperately designed unit for keyless cars

Then my brother sold his 2002 vw polo with 100k and inherited my papa's car, its an 06 focus sport tdci, on 56k miles. Both back arches and back doors are rusty. The polo that it replaced did not have a spot of rust.

Dagenham dustbins

Strange, SWMBO has had a number of 320d's, SE's and mSports.

All were fine until he last one that tramlines like a ******, despite having had had brand new tyres, suspension work and 4wheel alignment etc.

If she had owned the last one first, she would have probably said something like what has been said about that Focus....

Well you get what you pay for, she is only shelling out a small amount and I personally think that was the last thing on her mind when she decided on one of these. That said, had we gone to look at the MK2 RS she wanted, maybe she would care then when handing over 18k....

Dagenham dustbins

I've shagged a few of those...

I didnt comment on a bmw. I compared a used ford to a 10 year old vw?

FORD = either , Found Or Repair Daily , or Found On Road Dead, according to my sources.

Never had any issues with any 3 of my Fords, only reason I sold my Focus was because the itch for a Fabia VRS was there. Still looked 10x better than the Fabia IMO.
