thinking of buying a octavia 2.0 tdi pd

Featured Replies

Iam thinking of buying a 2009 2.0 tdi pd octavia facelft model, i have seen a few but they all havehigh miles on them 150k.What are the common problems on these and will they do high miles because iam buying it for a taxi,at the momoent i have 2006 1.9 tdi with 250k on the clock..

It has ben very reliable , i have been told thst the 2.0tdi pds in the octavia didnt have problems which were in the other vag units.

Thanks in advance.

If you mean the 16 valve 140 bhp BKD version of the 2.0 PD then the one common fault on these is the turbo. Listen out for any strange whistling, howling or siren type noises when revving the engine as this means the turbo is on the way out. Also check that the car doesn't drop into limp-home mode under hard acceleration, as this can be a sign of the turbo vanes beginning to stick.

Early versions of this engine could suffer from cracked heads, but that was fixed from about 2005/2006 onwards.

Otherwise this particular engine doesn't really give any more trouble than a 1.9, and like the 1.9 doesn't have a DPF to worry about.

Does this engine suffer from oil pump failure (= new engine time) like the later 2.0 VAG diesels?

Not heard of any common major issues with these cars (I have one from 2007) apart from the turbo already mentioned and DMF failure.

No, that only affected 2.0 engines that were fitted with a balance shaft, which none of the Octavia 2.0 diesels were.

The only Skoda affected by the oil pump problem was the mk1 Superb 2.0 TDi which unfortunately did have a balance shaft.

Thanks for the replies, i have seen a 59 plate  which has 170k on the clock, its advertised for 4750.

Would you say that a good price.

I don't know about the pricing in the UK but make sure the DMF feels ok and the Turbo is ok. Obviously check if it's due a timing belt. Just to give you an idea of how good the 2.0 BKD engine is, mine is now over 609,000kms and still rockin'

It may not answer the question, but it might benefit from a Tunit - and I just happen to have one spare.  ;)

Well that has just answered my question about changing my motor! Was thinking about changing 'Obi One Skoda' as approaching 100,000 miles and Cambelt due a change but after reading this no way cheers!!

That's a lot of miles in 4 years! 40k+.

Got a link to the car you're looking at?

Off to see one tomorrow in Cannock ,it has 182k ,turbo ,timing belt, flywheel have been changed. The dealer wants 4500 for it, its a 59 plate.

Also looking at an exeo with 140 on the clock which is for 5k 59 plate, it has the caga 2.0 cr tdi engine.

What are your thoughts folks?

Will the exeo have the dpf?

Thanks again.

Any CR TDI will have a DPF yes.

Not much between them, although I prefer the Octy interior. As the Exeo is based on the old A4 it feels a bit more dated in there.

When was the water pump last changed on the Octy, hopefully it was done with the cambelt. Last clutch change, or is it still on the original. And you might be able to negotiate further on price; I'd imagine a good amount of potential buyers will be put off by the sheer mileage in that length of time.

Thanks for the reply, the water pump was changed with the cambelt, the clutch was done with the flywheel.

Regarding the exeo iam worried about the DPF but the mileage is lower, are the CRs good engines.

I will run it as a taxi, hopefully for 3 years.

The octy is an estate and a SE model.

The Exeo also is the same

What engine is in the Octy then? I'm presuming it's the CR140 TDI at that age. Which will have a DPF as well.

CR Octavias came in 2010. Not sure exactly when though.

I think latter part of the year.

And yes, CR Octavias have DPF, but the engine was designed to have one as opposed to some PD engines which had one tagged on.

non-vRS facelift 2.0 TDI perhaps, I know there was a bit of a wait on the CR140 version.

As the vRS TDI had the CR from MY09 onwards.

I didn't know that, but the OP was not specifically asking about Vrs Octavias.

The Octy was still using the PD140 until late 2010. The Scout 2.0 140 switched over to CR slightly sooner, but the rest of the 2.0 140 range only went over to CR from MY11.
