Popped Parking sensor

Featured Replies

Some lowlife hit my Octavia rear in the car park at ASDA the other day and disappeared ( thats life unfortunately). I have managed to buff out the scratches well, but the parking sensor ( far nearside rear , ie no1  counting from lft , just above the exhaust) has been popped out. It still works but is loose in the bumper.

Does anyone know how to reinsert it properly? It looks like I should push it back from the inside of the bumper and perhaps lightly glue it but I cant get to it due to the depth of the bumper and the exhaust being in the way...any bright ideas? Ive tried a sucker to pull it, wire/cotton looped around and pulled but nothing seems to work as its a tight fit if fitted properly. Is it a big job for my local garage?

i have the same problem with one of mine.

I started a thread about it about a week ago, i think its a bumper off job!

I guess the next question is how much of a job is it to take the bumper off? I dont want all the sensors going!!

Also from reading here the sensor is held by a clip on the inside..True? If so no amount of fiddling from the outside is going to fix it

PS Can you "search" a word/topic on this forum?

There's a bracket glued to the inside of the bumper and the sensor clips into this.

You may be able to reach up around the exhaust pipe to get to it.

Removing the rear bumper isn't hard, just time consuming.

Run the rear of the car over bricks to gain a few inches extra working room.

Unscrew the 4 torx screws on the lower bumper plastic.

Prise it open and wedge it with something so you can lay behind the car and get an arm up inside and access the sensor.

As previously mentioned the sensors are a clip fit into plastic/rubber holders which are glued to the inner plastic surface.

Remove and refit as required.

The 'glue' is a 3M double sided sticky pad. I'm trying to ascertain exactly which one as it uses an adhesive promoter.

I guess any suitable glue would also do the job.

You can replace them without removing the bumper, it is fiddly though to get them out. I resorted to removing the bracket from the bumper and then gluing it back in to place.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

A roll of double sided sticky foam tape is easily bought from large supermarkets.

Thank you all for these useful posts. No doubt the "clip" will have gone awol in the carpark!

I doubt it. The clip / bracket is pretty well secured to the sensor (or vice versa) and will probably still be attached to each other.

I had the same problem about 3 years ago. Carefully stick your hand between the exhaust and bumper ( probably you'll get a bit scratched, but hey...) clean the bumper with some sand-paper on the inside, apply some Super- glue on the sensor ( you can give it a try without the glue and see exactly which part of the sensor is touching the bumper) and that's it. That's what I did on mine and is still there for more than 3 years now...

£20! Wow I would've done it for a tenner ;-)

I also own a Mercedes.......minimum cost just to look at a problem is £80, and to do this job would be in the region of £150..........thats why I have the Skoda!
