police siren noise

Featured Replies

I seem to have a police siren noise but seems to be when from cold and gently accelerating and decelerating, is this the noise police associate with a turbo failure/turbo about turbo go?

Cheers

Turbo is about to expire. Merry Christmas

don't sugar coat it, Charlie :D

Mines being doing it for 2 years...

Interesting f if you do the n75 test in VCDS, the sound goes away when the vanes are closed.

Strangely, had this noise on a BMW 320d, it was an air pipe, not the turbo, although on them various turbo pipes, when split, can cause the siren noise.

I'd check for the easy fix first, the turbo pipes, just to make sure, then put your underpants on your head, pencils up your nose, and say 'wibble' if it is the turbo....

Noise doesn't happen when when car is warmed up.

Anyone got a video or clip with the police siren noise?

Its a tricky noise to tell how loud it is on a video. My mates started making a quiet siren noise when cold, over time it progressed to getting louder then all the time. Eventually he got it rebuilt before it totally gave up.

Aye, will just keep an eye on it will likely pull of the pipes and look at the impellors and shaft.

I've rebuild supechargers etc in the past with mechanical gland seals etc and i think this noise is normal its a bearing noise, obviously bearing wear with age so long as its not got to the point where the bearing its about to fail.

Well I fitted a recon turbo got it back Saturday evening with the same sound as the link posted and Tuesday afternoon it went pop

I had this noise on my grande punto (130 , well 165bhp 1.9 deisel) when it reached 100k.... if felt as fast as it had ever been , took it to a RR and it was "spiking" at 200bhp at 2,500 revs, the RR man was unwilling to do a "proper" run, he backed out every time it spiked... he said turbo was about to expire, (it was 100k old, and was mapped at 4k) so I replaced before it went bang, standard new turbo quite cheap at £400 fitted...

No I hope not think he means his recon turbo went pop is what I got from that mate.

It is the one from Xman I knew it wasn't right from the off, unit 18 said the same thing either the shaft has snapped or the compressor wheel has come off and it's feeding oil into the boost pipe

Unlucky mate. What's Xman said?

He's sending me another turbo, I've asked for him to pay for the refitting of the new turbo considering it only lasted 2 days, he said generally he wouldn't do it but under the circumstance he will once I've provided group 11 readings to prove it wasn't my remap that blew the turbo which I know it wasn't, my cars been remapped for 4 years on a stock turbo just fine

Its a tricky noise to tell how loud it is on a video.

+1

OP, have you checked to make sure there's not a young black kid under the bonnet? They tend to lurk near the SMIC
