The wife's car is a 03 plate 1.4 polo 8v 75 bhp. The question I'm asking is, does it have a chain or belt? I understand the old 1.4s had chains fitted, can't find a engine code under the bonnet and I don't have a any books with the car. My car checks throws up that it's a AO4 series?

Also if it is chain driven, is it true that it's just a re bore of the old skoda favorit/Felicia engine?

The 8v 1.4 MPI in the Fabia is chain driven, and is a redeveloped version of the Favorit/Felicia engine, but this is not the same engine as in the Polo.

 

I reckon your Polo will be belt driven but can't confirm.

Ah, thought it may be too good to be true. I guess I better change it then to be sure.

A good rule of thumb is that if it's got plastic covers on the end of the engine, it's belt, metal covers, it's chain.

Haven't a clue. It's doesn't say anywhere, I'll book it in the garage either next week or just after Christmas and let them sort it out.

In the boot on polo is a white sticker with engine code and gearbox the polos engines are belt driven like the 1.6aee I would orso change water pump as well as belt and tensioner
