Hi All, Hope someone can advise on the following ;-

 

         1.       Is it right that the timing on this engine is chain drive.

 

         2.       Have heard that due to the direct injection I should use  the higher octane fuel

 

          3.       What is the service intervals on this engine, and any kwown problem I should look for

 

 Octavia  2008 1.6 auto Elegance bought in Feb this year and love the car.

1. The 1.6 FSI has a timing chain.

 

2. Don't know......what does the manual suggest?

 

3. I imagine 12,000 miles or every year......I presume variable servicing is an option too, in which case it can be up to 2 years or 18,000 miles....just wait for the spanner symbol to appear.

2 On my 2008 Octavia I use unly 98 + octane fuel since I bougt it (new)

 

3 the service interval is 15,000 km or one year.

Thanks for the reply was beginning to think nobody else had one, I've been using normal 4 star with what seems to be no ill effect, any idea what problems could occur?

4 Star   .......you mean standard 95 RON unleaded surely? 

 

The 1.6 FSI might be slightly classic technology these days but not that classic......4 star (if you can find it) will destroy your catalytic converter.

Try to use at least 98 RON. I use on mine only 98 --> up, and is working great and goon on mpg too. From time to time I use metabond additive for gas. ( I use for oil too). My mechanic (who is mechanic for rally teams) recommended that I use metabond for oil and for gas too, because I drive in a sporty way so I use high revs, but the engine is made to use high revs anyway.

Im looking at a 1.6... Is everyone happy with their 1.6? Any major problems? Any regrets?

According to the manual I've got, you can see the required fuel on the inside of the fuel filler flap.

I am happy with 1,6 FSI. No problems in 223.000 km. Regrets ... none, maybe lack of turbo , when an A6 3.0 ... is faster than me
