Octavia troubles...

Featured Replies

Hi all, bought a 2008 58 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI today (5 speed so I think a 1.9)..

The Engine Management Light was on

The Airbag light is on

Vehicle took a while to start first time

Vehicle cut out on me twice at low speeds

My friend said it does not feel as quick as it should

After revving or driving the car you can see white smoke coming from the back

What could any of this be? And dont worry I plan to have it taken to a garage who knows what they are doing..

Thanks in advance

And you still brought it?!!!

Sounds expensive!

Haha it was very cheap indeed even considering all the faults, so worth spending on too in our opinion, good price in the auction, the engine sounded nice still, and the gearbox and clutch works beautifully...

I'd start with a VCDS scan to see what's going on.....and you're right, it will be a 1.9.

Airbag light is probably just the plug under the drivers seat.....very common fault.

As for the other issues......hard to tell with the symptoms you describe.....could be cheap and simple or expensive to fix!

Not much goes wrong with the 1.9 engine, but one thing that can, and cause a lot of these symptoms, is worn camshaft lobes. This is particularly the case if the wrong grade of oil has been used in the past.

white smoke could mean head gasket problems but in general the 1.9 pd engine is a pretty tough engine and shouldn't cost too much to fix up
