Another HID thread. Okay for foglights?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I know theres lots of thoughts on this issue but looking at my headlights i noticed that the foglight element looks like its a projector lense within the main lense?

I think these are h3 fittings?

I figured that i only use fogs in bad visibility so maybe its a good idea to pair up HID H3 foglights with some philips blue vision H4 headlights.

Thoughts? :)

Some hid kits take a good few seconds to get the light to there brightest. Might not be ideal if the fog suddenly appears and you need them on quick

my mate has some on his normal dipped beams and high beams (a bi xenon kit) he said he never needs to use the fog lights now as the high beam are better apparently.

Surely in real fog conditions though, hi-beam is bloody useless. You need to point the light UNDER the fog, not get blinded by it!

But then our fogs are in the wrong place and pretty crap in this respect, regardless. But light pointing up is not gonna be good for the worst of pea-soupers...

I can't comment on the hids in the fogs but all I can say is that you don't want to put led bulbs in them.

I bought some and they are utter crap. They barely light up the wall on my driveway, they are possibly the worst LEDs or just don't work well in the projector lenses and would suggest not to go that route.

They give a gorgeous look when they match into the led sidelights I have but the sides are actually brighter than the fog bulbs.?!

I would prob go the hid route in fairness if I was to change them after going back to my oe bulbs as I have done.

Light Emitting Diodes do not spread light like filament bulbs. It is very direct light. Generally not a good idea at all for anything that requires a pattern of light.

Oh yeah I know that but I thought for the amount they were it was worth a try. It however wasn't really worth it other than for the looks where they all match up and it just looks like a very cool ice blue light across the front in the lights.

Perfect colour match considering they came from totally different suppliers and over 2 years apart from each other.

Was merely stating dont bother if you want a decent light source as they are more for show in this fitment.

Some led's are awesome, not cheap though :D

I just meant that the ones fitted into the projector lense for the fogs were quite bright until being out into that housing.

Whether its the quality of LEDs or just that they don't suit that setup very well I'm reality, I don't know.

I'm not knocking LEDs at all as have used loads and still do.

Fog lights just didn't really work out so well.

Either going to go hid or uprated h3 bulbs.

Back onto topic though I think as before, the hid h3 bulbs should be absolutely fine.
