New FL on order - few Q's

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've been reading a lot on these forums and I must say I've learnt a lot. There is a wealth of useful info available. Thanks for that guys! I am stilled puzzled over few details and would love to hear from you...

I ordered the FL Yeti on 16 November 2013. I had an idea about what I wanted on it at the time and I am quite happy with the way I specified it. However, with passing time, I am beginning to think that I might have missed few bits.

This is what I ordered http://cc-cloud.skoda-auto.com/CarCard/47557806

I really like the idea of larger engine and 4x4, but truth to be told, living in London, I also appreciate the economy side of things. My Rooster Scout with the same engine serves me well and it is nice to drive. I hope for the Yeti to feel about the same with a little bit more comfort. I am slightly concerned about the additional weight, but I am pretty much set on the engine.

Now, lets hit the questions. By the way, I had searched for answers, so please don't advise me to it again. Cheers.

1. Bolero and DAB - My Yeti comes with Bolero. I'd like a DAB, but I refuse to spend more on upgrading it for a Satnav, which I find inferior to my TomTom with HD traffic. I wonder, does the new FL Yeti Bolero come with DAB? I know the older one hadn't. However, I downloaded a Bolero manual, possibly from Octavia, which clearly includes DAB. I asked the dealer and was told "No". The thing is, I don't really have a huge deal of trust in their knowledge, since I knew more than them about what is and isn't included at the time of order. It would be nice to have, but it isn't essential. What do you think, is it there or not?

2. MDI - This one is where I am pretty lost. I use an iPhone and I believe one can pair it via Bluetooth to payback the music content. What benefit is there in the MDI? I mostly just listen to the LBC radio and I guess that I would be happy for my phone it to work as with any "Airplay" device, controlling the playback on my phone. A steering wheel control would be nice, but not essential. Could you please explain to me what is it that I would gain, please?

3. Electrically adjustable drivers seat - I will share the car with my darling wife, unless of course, she gets her own car  :giggle:  I am beginning to think that being able to store our settings for the seat position and the mirrors would be nice. The question is, does it really work that well? Is it worth the expense? I also wonder whether it works with Kessy and sets its self up depending on who enters the car? I also like the idea of the dimming mirror on the drivers side. Is it effective?

4. Parking Assist - I configured the monster with the front and rear sensors. Since I am likely to make a change to my order, I am also considering the upgrade to Park Assist. Do I understand it correctly, that I does have the same function as the Front and Rear sensors? In other words, could I use it the same way? I'd hope so. Also, how often do you find your selves to let the car park for you? I like the sound of it, but is it worth the expense? I am not sure..

5. Alcantara upholstery - Most of my previous cars had a full leather, which I liked thanks to easy maintenance. I run a construction business and I can get a little dirty visiting the building sites every so often. I am getting worried about Alcantara getting ruined. I am thinking about a seat cover for such times, as I really prefer the soft feel of the Alcantara for all the other times. I read numerous post saying that it works well for many, but I wonder, is there anyone in similar situation to me?

6. Missing anything? - I reckon that I asked all what was on my mind. Is there anything I missed? I appreciate that it is all very subjective, but I put a huge value on other people's experience.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Can't wait to get my build week.......

5....I think it needs special cleaning technique ....I  saw a U Tube video on how to clean it and it looked a right nightmare and the end result didn't look good with lots of combing with a soft brush to try to restore texture.

I don't think water is recommended.

1. With regard to DAB Skoda have dragged their feet on this one and it appears to be restricted on what is offered. Don't think it is as simple as requesting a Bolero DAB unit.

Even my dealer was confused when asked recently. Why the dealer doesn't know their product inside out

baffles me...often feel they read the brochure in front of you and that can't be relied upon, or use the

excuse "Skoda haven't told us".....they probably haven't so should ask maybe.

I'm not prepare to spend £750/£1750 just to get DAB...£100 max.

I didn't order the electric seat for my Elegance and i think it is the one option I made a mistake with. If ordering again I would order it becasue it can't practically be added later and there isn;t a workaround, like you can with adding a portable sat-nav if you didn't order integrated sat -nav.

Park Assist. Because i wanted sensors front and rear it made sense to spend the extra £200 or so and have Park Assist. Brilliant! I don't use it all the time but have found that it willeasily get me into spaces I woudn't have been brave enough to try if I didn't have it. In London it would seem to be the no-brainer option. If you decide it's not for you, you don't have to use it, just rely on the sensors.

Finally, and it is your money, but you say "living in London" and then larger engine and 4x4. Unless you do a lot of mileage outside of London don't dismiss the small petrol engines - mine's a 1.2 TSI , gets me a round very nicely and returns 40mpg with a fair proportion of journeys well under 10 miles.

You shouldn't have a problem with the 1.6. I have a Greenline, so I think my gearing is slightly taller. I am currently using it for motorway driving and also in and around London. The 1.6 is absolutely fine in my opinion.

Edit - Just noticed that you have ordered the greenline :)
