Reversing sensors 2012 Vrs

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I hav`nt been on here for a while,but now I have a `fresh` Vrs I have a question regarding rear parking sensors...

Coming off Nightshift, and the car sitting in the rain for 12hours,as I was reversing the car onto the drive, the rear left centremost sensor went straight to the red zone and emitted a continuous bleep as soon as I selected reverse.(there was deffo nothing behind me)

After a quick look on here it seems that the Vrs is prone to this fault.

Could`nt seem to find a `fix`,is this something I`ll just have to live with??

Only had the car a week!

Cheers folks.....................

Yeah this happens to mine sometimes, I just jump out and give the offending sensor a quick rub with my hand and it goes away.

My Scout does this too, there was a thread some where with an idea about spraying something on the sensor to waterproof it or make it water repellent..

I get it randomly on various front and rear sensors, very rarely the same sensor each time after rain or very heavy dew.

I too thought this was normal, as it has happened to me on all my cars, different/various marques but the general opinion of the forum when I previously said that it is "normal" was I was the opposite and that the sensor was "leaking" or needed replacing or seal the back.

There will be many that will say they have never had this fault, I believe they are the few and the lucky ones ;)

I just live with it and keep an eye on the screen at the image to see what the non active sensors are doing when parking up tight to something.

Yes I have exactly the same issue on my 2012 Vrs just got it back from the main dealer yesterday day after its 2nd service and I had mentioned the problem with just one of my rear parking Sensors second one in near side. The dealer said they've had a memo from Skoda who are aware of the issue but are saying it's not a problem just a trait of these super sensitive sensors. I did say if that's the case how come all my senses and not registering a similar fault when wet as I have both front and rear Parking sensors. In fact I did say I was happy to take my vehicle away and have the sensor replaced at my own expense and if the new sensor had exactly the same fault I would accept their argument. But if after replacing the in my opinion faulty sensor the fault went away I would expect to be reimbursed under warranty from Skoda To which he replied well you could do that but the problem is Skoda have not had enough complaints to accept that this is Inherent fault. So I said okay fine if it's numbers they want I could quite easily and very quickly get Information from Other Skoda owners who have this very same fault. He was not keen on me putting a post on this forum to that effect and instead gave me the number of customer services at Skoda UK and told me to give them a ring to see if they could help me any further and recommended that I do this before I put any post on this forum Surprise surprise. So I will give them a ring on Monday and see what they have to say

I believe I read a post on here stating that the problem was water in between the sensor and the sensor housing. I know when I get one that acts up when I rub over the front of it with my finger I get a little water coming out. I might try rubbing some vaseline  around the outside of the sensor to keep the water out the next time i get one playing up to see if that has any effect.

BTW I have just ordered a reversing camera to compliment my system, I hope it does not cause any problems with the sensors !!

I'd be interested in the outcome as I took mine to the dealers to be fixed under warranty and was basically fobbed off as well.

Hey,thanks for the replies all, looks like it isn't anything to worry about!!

They have been fine today,i`ll see how it goes.

THANKS AGAIN ALL.

I`ve got another question though,i`ll start a new topic......

Mine did it initially but I doused them all in PTFE spray and it hasn't happened since. Just give them a good squirt around the black rubber sealing rings.

This happened to my 2009 vrs last month for the first time after owning it for a year. A good clean and its not done it again.
