Door seals damaged by roof bars.

Featured Replies

Just discovered today when cleaning the car that the seals have been ripped at the top of the front passenger and driver doors. I have had thule roof bars on the car since I've owned it (about a year and a half) and it would appear it is where the door seal meets the fixing point for the roof bar that has caused the damage. Rear doors are fine. Anyone experienced this before? Car is a fl vrs hatch. Also anyone know off hand price of new door seals - haven't phoned dealer yet to find out.

Got Thule roof kit for mine. When first fitted noticed when the doors are shut that it was a bit too tight on the door seal.

Bit of loosening and wiggling gave a much better fit that looked less likely to damage the seals.

Only used the roof rack once so far but yeah one to watch out for.

Ah, will maybe check and see if I can adjust the bars. Had never really noticed that there was a lot of pressure on the door seal.

Roof bars fitted to the car for over 18 months!?

Think of the increased MPG!

Lol. To be honest I've not really noticed much of a difference in economy with them on and mine is a petrol vrs as well! I do however remove the bike carriers from them when I'm not using them as they make tend to affect the economy more and generate quite a bit of wind noise.
