Turned the key this morning and only got a *klick*

Featured Replies

I know, pretty selfexplanatory title isn't it?
I know it's not the battery, I tested wiring to mother-in-law's car and no difference there.
The thing is, I've had a flat battery once before in the car (forgot the interiorlightning on).
The reaction that is different than when it's a flat battery is that it's just ONE click.
When the battery is flat, you get multiple clicks!
Hope you understand what I mean, have anyone of you had any experience like this?
Worth noting is that it worked fine the day before it.

If the battery is completely flat you won't necessarily always get a series of clicks. It just depends on how much residual voltage is in the battery at the time you turn the key. If you are saying you have tested the battery and the voltage is around 13.2v, then the battery is ok. If you are getting a click with a charged battery then there are a couple of possibilites. 1. the starter is not getting current to operate (poor connections on the starter from the battery and or earth) but you can hear the starter solenoid clicking. 2. You have a loose or poor connection to the batter posts or body earth allowing enough current to pass to operate the solenoid, but not turn the starter motor. Those are the two most common problems. Of course there can be other things such as the starter motor is completely no good and won't turn the engine even with a charged battery.

Tested the spare-key in case the immo-part would have died in the key.
Also tried to remove the ground completely from the battery.
Afraid, none of the mentioned things solved it...
As I stated earlier : I know it's not the battery.
The battery is working.

But you haven't said HOW you know its working for sure - jumping it off another car won't always work if the battery is totally flat.

Other than that, could be starter solenoid.

had a battery go internal short and could not start it by jump starting (just got red hot jump leads)

have you tested the voltage of the battery,

do you get the equivilant to uk skoda assist in Sweden? if so time to call them

I had a bad battery and only got one click per attempt at starting, so its a possibility there is still something up with it. As said above check the terminals are clean as well.

still say battery ;) *runs

Introduce starter motor to a persuader of some description with key turned, works on mini's

Not being rude but batteries do strange things...a single click can and most likely will be a dead/duff battery.

I started my car drove 3 miles to a local shop, switched off bought a paper came out and "CLICK" duff totally dead battery.

That is how quickly they go!

Just get yourself a decent battery connected and try again..simples, until you try a battery it is no good sitting saying you know the battery is good.

Unless you have tested it on a decent battery tester, similar to an RAC/AA/Green Flag man has or your local battery shop!

A standard multimeter across the terminals is a wasted effort a duff battery will give you a voltage but you need amps!

If you are trying a jump start make sure you use a decent jump set anything with bootlace size cables throw in the bin, you will not get any current through them.

Hope you sort it :)

Found the problem...you know the bolt for the enginemount?
Where the ground is connected?
Yeah, that bolt was teared RIGHT OFF!
It's horrifying to see a bolt of that size be teared right off.
Connected it with earlier mentioned jumpercables and voila : it started.

So now I know atleast to check the ground.

Thanks for the helpful ones... and sharkrider, I will find you ;P!

^^^^ and I'll steal bits from you car ;)
